Sr Production Underwriter - Middle Market

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Production Underwriter - Middle Market based in United States.

This role is responsible for driving profitable growth across a middle market commercial insurance portfolio.
You will evaluate complex risks, develop sound underwriting strategies, and manage new and renewal business.
The position combines technical underwriting expertise with active production, agency relationship management, and market development.
You will build strong partnerships with agencies and insureds while identifying opportunities to grow a profitable book of business.
As a senior resource, you will also mentor team members, resolve escalated issues, and contribute expertise to broader initiatives.
The role offers a fully remote environment for candidates located in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while representing the field underwriting perspective across the organization.

Accountabilities:

• Profitably underwrite complex new and renewal commercial business through disciplined risk selection, pricing, contractual review, account management, and regulatory compliance.
• Apply critical thinking to assess exposures, evaluate controls, determine appropriate pricing, and establish terms and conditions that support a profitable portfolio.
• Clearly document underwriting rationale, risk assessments, and key decisions for assigned accounts.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to team members handling complex risks.
• Manage the assigned renewal book and portfolio effectively to achieve established profit and premium objectives.
• Drive production goals within the assigned territory through marketing, prospecting, agency engagement, and development of a strong new business pipeline.
• Conduct in-person and virtual sales calls with agencies and insureds while developing and maintaining trusted relationships with producers and agency partners.
• Represent the organization in the marketplace by communicating capabilities across underwriting, risk control, claims, and other business areas.
• Collaborate with underwriting, Sales and Distribution, Underwriting Center, Underwriting Support, Risk Control, Legal, Claims, and other internal partners to ensure effective stakeholder management.
• Conduct agency reviews and gather market intelligence regarding opportunities, agencies, competitors, and changing market conditions.
• Mentor, coach, and train team members while serving as a resource for questions, escalated issues, and complex underwriting decisions.
• Represent the field underwriting perspective in corporate initiatives and strategic projects.
• Support the development and deployment of technical underwriting training and content.

Requirements:

• Four-year college degree preferred.
• Completion of, or progress toward, AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations preferred.
• 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred.
• Advanced risk evaluation capabilities and strong knowledge of insurance contracts.
• Ability to execute underwriting strategy effectively and make sound decisions within delegated authority.
• Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor, coach, train, and support colleagues.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing competing demands and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish a high level of trust with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Advanced communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Strong time-management and organizational abilities, including the ability to manage effective dates and competing priorities.
• Advanced knowledge of agency relationships and the current commercial insurance market.
• Proven sales capabilities and a track record of growing a profitable book of business.
• Willingness to travel based on the assigned territory and book of business.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required.

• Base salary of $115,000–$155,000 annually, with individual compensation determined by experience, education, certifications, skills, geography, internal equity, and market data.
