Description of Work

This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, Burke County, NC. Foothills Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody Male facility housing 712 single cells. This position will function in the program section of Foothills Correctional Institution.

The key duties of an Institution Classifications Coordinator/Program Coordinator II often include but are not limited to:

• Communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and the general public verbally and in written form.
• Serve as coordinator and advisor to the Director’s Sub-committees (DSC) and to area, institution, or complex authorities.
• Attend Subcommittee meetings to advise on policies and procedures, as well as on unique aspects or special needs of a particular prison facility or offender.
• Advocate problem cases through DSC to the Director’s Review Committee (DRC) and coordinate transfers of offenders accordingly.
• Serve as consultant to lower classification committees at the area, institutional, and complex levels, and provide informal training in interpreting policies, procedures and laws.
• Have a thorough knowledge of the classification process and a knowledge of programs and unique aspects of each prison facility.
• Have knowledge of utilization of testing results and psychological aspects, along with a knowledge of characteristics of mental conditions and understanding of sociological facets and family interactions.
• Serve as a member on the DCC and FCC committees.
• Coordinate tort claims.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $43,267.00 - $75,718.00

The salary grade for this position is NC10 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
