Surgical First Assistant (RNFA / CSA / CFA)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Afternoons/Evenings (2:45 PM – 11:15 PM) | Onsite | Includes 6–8 call shifts per 6-week period

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon during operative procedures including patient positioning, holding retraction for exposure, tying sutures, and closing the skin
• Set up the operating room with necessary equipment prior to procedure start time and maintain sterile technique throughout
• Assist with room turnover and restocking of surgical supplies following procedures
• Work closely with the charge nurse for case assignments and serve as a resource for surgical procedures
• Support a broad range of surgical specialties including robotics, spine, orthopedics, laparoscopic, general, GYN, urology, and vascular
• Maintain active certification as a surgical assistant in accordance with applicable standards

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology and an accredited Surgical Assistant program
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical First Assistant
• Active Virginia state license required prior to submission
• Current CSA or CFA certification required prior to submission
• Current BLS certification required
• Candidates not currently certified with more than 2 years of SFA experience must obtain certification within 6 months of hire; new graduates from a certified Surgical First Assist program must obtain certification within 1 year

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with da Vinci Robotic surgical systems
• Proficiency across multiple surgical specialties
• Flexible scheduling availability
