THE POSITION

Start a meaningful career as a Transportation Planning Specialist 1 with the Department of Transportation. This role lets you work with project data, funding tools, and planning activities that keep important transportation projects moving forward. You will support partners, assist with project reviews, and help maintain accurate information across multiple systems. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports transportation planning and programming activities by assisting with funding actions, coordinating project data, and helping maintain regional planning efforts. Work includes tracking project information, supporting planning partners, and maintaining accurate records across multiple systems. As a Transportation Planning Specialist 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Funding Coordination: Support project funding adjustments, track awarded funds, and maintain accurate MPMS records
  • Data Support: Extract, review, and update planning data using reports, mapping tools, and software systems
  • Planning Assistance: Attend meetings, support planning partners, and assist with LRTP, TIP, and TYP development activities
  • Project Tracking: Monitor project phases, update milestone dates, and maintain complete and correct MPMS information
  • Partner Communication: Provide guidance to external partners and respond to project or MPMS related questions
  • Program Participation: Serve on committees or task forces and support district efforts related to funding, classification, and capital planning

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional transportation planning or transportation programming experience and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
