Cashier PositionStore/Tienda #1 - 840 East 41st Street, Hialeah, 33013 - Shift/Turno: Part-Time/Medio Tiempo - (Flexible; Morning or afternoon/Flexible; Por la mañana o por la tarde) - The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the goals, values and operating principles of Sedano's Supermarkets, and in conformity with all laws and regulations governing the company. Every employee is to follow the policies and procedures of his/her department as well as those of the company to ensure smooth operations. Every employee, regardless of job title, is responsible for ensuring a safe environment throughout the store. This includes, but is not limited to immediately securing an area when a hazardous situation occurs, promptly informing the store manager of the situation, and/or promptly taking action to remove the hazardous condition. Every employee must also maintain a friendly attitude, wear the proper uniform or dress code, keep the store stocked and organized, and provide excellent customer service on a regular basis.Cashiers provide excellent customer service while accurately processing customer purchases.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPolitely greet customers with a smile and provide excellent customer service; attend to customers' needs calling for manager or supervisor when necessaryPromptly scan products or weigh produce being purchased; operate cash register accurately and efficiently accepting all forms of payment and provide the correct change when appropriateMaintain cash drawer with sufficient currency and coinsCount out cash drawer at the beginning and end of a shiftConduct price checks when necessaryPlace items in bags for customers; assist with loading into shopping cart when necessaryReturn discarded items back to shelves when necessaryKeep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale and counter clean at all timesAssist with keeping the front of the store clean, organized, and free from safety hazardsWhen requested or scheduled, straighten out displays and shelves of merchandise (a/k/a "facing")Attend and/or participate in store or department meetingsPunctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; ensures work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absencesPerforms other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the positionSecondary Duties and ResponsibilitiesServe as bagger or facing clerk when necessaryAdd or change paper in registers, printer, adding machine or other office equipmentReport any equipment malfunctions to manager on dutyGather shopping carts from front of store and parking lot when neededAssist manager on duty in other departments when neededCompetencies, Skills and/or QualificationsAbility to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferredAbility to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferredExcellent interpersonal skillsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general publicGood mathematical skillsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram formAbility to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines, etc., to accomplish essential duties of this position and change or add receipt paper when neededAbility to use 10-key adding machineTakes responsibility for own actionsAbility to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekendsStrong organizational skills with attention to detailDemonstrates accuracy and thoroughnessPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:Stand in one place for extended periods of timeWalkUse fingers and hands to type, handle, or feelReach with hands and armsRepetitive motion with arms and handsTalk and hearUse sense of smellAbility to see including close vision and peripheral visionThe employee is frequently required to:Carry, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds (e.g. bag of rice)Push and pull carts of merchandiseStoop or bend at the waistTwist back and neckThe employee is occasionally required to:SitClimb step stoolBalanceCrouch or bend at the kneesThe individual performs duties in a grocery store environment.
