Instructor - Dental Hygiene (Part-Time Interest Pool 2026)

Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

This posting is to establish an applicant pool for potential openings in 2026. The successful candidate(s) must reside within a reasonable commuting distance and be available to work at off-site facilities as required. Job Summary Provides quality instruction that will contribute to the learning experiences necessary for each student to meet the objectives of the course and to be successful in both their education and career development experiences. Essential Duties

1. Assists the program director in the adherence to and review of program practices to meet accreditation standards.
2. Conforms to college regulations regarding textbook selection and replacement.
3. Meets classes on time and regularly as scheduled, and arrives 15 minutes prior to the start of all lab or clinical sessions.
4. Posts and maintains appropriate office hours either in person or remotely.
5. Teaches one evening class per year or one summer term class as needed.
6. Attends or participates remotely in all scheduled faculty meetings.
7. Assists in the development of courses as requested by other instructors or the program director.
8. Assists the clinical coordinator, program director, and/or administrative assistant on a variety of projects as needed.
9. Reports any student concerns (academic, clinical, or behavioral) to the clinical coordinator, program director, or Dean as they arise.
10. Reports any clinical equipment or supply concerns to the clinical coordinator as they arise.
11. Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices in the labs/clinic, classrooms, department offices, supply area, and sterilization room.
12. Adheres to the same dress code, grooming, and PPE requirements as mandated for students who are participating in lab or clinical activities.
13. Understands and abides by college policies and regulations.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in dental hygiene for clinical/lab instruction OR Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or related field for didactic course instruction.
• Active dental hygiene license in any state.
• Two (2) years of experience in a clinical dental hygiene practice.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

• Possession of a personal liability insurance policy.
• Possession of an expanded practice permit.
• Possession of a restorative endorsement and experience.
• Possession of a nitrous oxide permit.
• Teaching experience.
• Community or volunteer experience in the dental field.

Additional Qualifications and/or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Additional Requirements

• Instructors must complete at least three (3) educational methodology courses each year.
• Instructors must complete at least 12 hours of continuing education each year in area(s) of instruction.

Working Conditions and Important Information

Working Conditions Work is typically performed in a classroom environment, including clinical labs which provide patient care. Some work may be performed while sitting at a computer terminal. This is an on-site position. Any remote work requires prior approval and must comply with MHCC Remote Work policies and administrative regulations. Remote work must be within the states of Oregon or Washington. Salary Placement Initial salary placement for Instructional Load Credit (ILC) Instructors will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Initial salary placement for all other newly hired instructors will be at Level 1. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience (including unpaid and volunteer experience) in your application that you would like the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.

Compensation and Benefits Information for Part-Time Instructors Part-time Instructors may teach classes within a variety of programs, including credit-based, Community Education, and ABE, GED, and ESL programs. There is no guaranteed minimum teaching load or hours worked. Credit-based classes: Part-time Instructors for credit-based classes are paid per instructional load credit (ILC) according to the salary schedule below. Salary level will be based on educational level and total accumulated ILCs as part-time instructors at the College; initial placement will not exceed Level 2.
