Step into a meaningful role supporting students in an educational setting near Independence, MO. This contract-based paraprofessional opportunity spans from now until late May, offering valuable experience in both middle and elementary school settings. You’ll have the chance to work at New Mark Middle or Maplewood Elementary and may occasionally assist flexibly where needed throughout the school year.
Your background supporting school environments and managing student behavior will be highly valued. This position is ideal for those passionate about education and looking to make a difference, while gaining hands-on experience. Whether you are a certified paraprofessional or an RBT, your ability to adapt and provide support wherever needed will be essential.
Qualifications:
- Active substitute certificate on DESE or passing Paraprofessional exam results with diploma on file
- Experience working in schools, particularly with student behavior support
- Willingness to undergo fingerprinting (candidates responsible for upfront cost)
- Reliable transportation to travel between school locations
- Flexible mindset—comfortable with potential shifts in assignments or locations throughout the year
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers and support student learning, engagement, and well-being
- Help implement behavioral strategies and interventions
- Supervise students during class, breaks, and transitions
- Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and administration to promote a positive environment
- Maintain clear communication and documentation as needed
Take advantage of consistent daytime hours, with middle school shifts from 7:00 AM–2:30 PM and elementary from 8:30 AM–3:55 PM. Paraprofessionals may be eligible for direct hire with the district after six months of service.
