2nd Shift Assembly Supervisor

The 2nd Shift Assembly Supervisor is accountable for the full performance of second shift assembly operations, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and team development. This role runs the floor during off hours with limited support on site, so the supervisor must make sound decisions independently, keep builds on schedule, and hold the team to standard. The supervisor owns a clean handoff to and from first shift, stays actively engaged on the floor to remove barriers and resolve issues in real time, and is directly accountable for second shift results.

Scope and Responsibilities: Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assembly Operations and Workflow Leadership: Direct daily assembly operations to hit output, quality, and efficiency targets. Sequence builds, assign labor to the schedule, and adjust staffing and priorities as demand shifts through the shift.
• Shift Handoff and Continuity: Own the handoff with first shift. Take an accurate account of build status at start of shift, communicate open issues and progress at end of shift, and carry unfinished work forward without losing time or information.
• Team Leadership and Accountability: Lead, coach, and develop assemblers and team leads. Set clear expectations for performance and behavior, conduct performance reviews, address gaps, and apply corrective action when necessary. Build bench strength through cross training.
• Production Performance Management: Drive measurable results in output, efficiency, and labor performance. Review daily production and labor reports for accuracy, monitor metrics against target, and take corrective action when the shift falls behind.
• Quality Oversight and Compliance: Ensure assemblies meet print and specification. Enforce in process checks and disciplined quality practices aligned with ISO standards, and prevent repeat defects or escapes to downstream operations and shipping.
• Hands On Support and Troubleshooting: Step in on complex or problem builds to keep flow moving and protect delivery commitments. Use mechanical aptitude to diagnose fit, function, and process issues on the floor.
• Continuous Improvement and Standard Work: Lead initiatives to reduce cycle time, rework, and wasted motion. Apply structured improvement methods, and establish and reinforce standard work and training materials so gains hold across shifts.
• Safety and 6S Leadership: Enforce all safety procedures and promote safe work practices. Maintain a disciplined, organized work area consistent with 6S principles, and address unsafe conditions immediately.
• Cross Functional Coordination: Coordinate with materials, quality, first shift, and support functions to ensure clean handoffs, correct documentation, and alignment on priorities.
• Reporting and Systems: Prepare and review production, labor, and performance reports using ERP and reporting systems. Use data to drive accountability across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5 to 7 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment, leading hourly teams on the floor.
• Prior assembly experience and second or off shift leadership experience preferred.

Skills:

• Proven ability to build, coach, and hold a team accountable to daily production targets, leading through presence and running the floor independently with limited support on shift.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a drive to learn assembly operations and equipment.
• Disciplined attention to detail with a track record of following and enforcing established procedures.
• Comfortable working with production data: counts, efficiency rates, and schedules in Excel and ERP systems.
• Clear, direct communicator, both verbal and written, across shifts and departments.
• Able to manage competing priorities and make sound calls under production pressure.
