Cardiology Physician

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care:

• Conduct thorough cardiovascular examinations and assessments.
• Diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of heart and vascular conditions.
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans including medications, lifestyle modifications, and surgical interventions if necessary.
• Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and cardiac catheterizations.
• Provide ongoing follow-up care and monitoring for patients with chronic cardiovascular conditions.

2. Clinical Procedures:

• Perform and supervise cardiac procedures including but not limited to angioplasty, stenting, electrophysiology studies, and pacemaker/ICD implantation.
• Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and standards during all procedures.

3. Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with primary care physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care for patients with cardiovascular conditions.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families to educate them about their conditions and treatment options.

4. Documentation and Compliance:

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation in accordance with VA policies and regulations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant medical and ethical standards, guidelines, and regulations.

5. Education and Training:

• Provide education and training to medical students, residents, and fellows in the field of cardiology.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in cardiology through continuous education and participation in professional organizations and conferences.

6. Research and Quality Improvement:

• Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and protocols.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
