Respiratory Therapist

Description SUMMARY: Coordinates and provides quality respiratory care services. Coordinates and performs clinical respiratory services provided to customers. Must be able to observe, assess, and monitor signs and symptoms, reactions, general behavior, and general physical response of individuals to respiratory care services, including determination of whether those signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general physical response exhibit abnormal characteristics. Develop, implement, and modify respiratory care treatments plans based on assessed abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, respiratory care protocols, clinical pathways, referrals, and written, verbal, or telecommunicated orders of a physician. Make recommendations to physicians for quality of care of patients. Application, operation, and management of mechanical ventilator support and other means of life support; and the initiation of emergency procedures under the rules of established by the board. Must be able to read and interpret insurance documents, medical records and written orders. Must be able to chart in detail, both written and in applicable database, ongoing patient care. Will be required to do specialized and high tech respiratory equipment. Provides appropriate deliveries, set-up, and instruction to clinical respiratory patients. Provides plan of service / plan of treatment services to evaluate, assess and meet the customer’s needs, goals and requirements and / or appropriateness of service / therapy. Markets and promotes the clinical respiratory services of the company to the referral sources and the health care community. Coordinates and performs quality assurance and oxygen concentrator maintenance service as described in the maintenance reference manuals. Coordinates and performs quality assurance and maintenance services on respiratory therapy items as described in the maintenance reference manuals. Delivers and instructs customer and / or caregivers on the proper and safe use of oxygen concentrators, liquid oxygen system, cylinder oxygen system and respiratory items. Instructs customers and / or care givers on infection control procedures and are in compliance with internal and external regulations. Coordinates and/or completes all equipment maintenance management records as required by the organization. Coordinates and assists with obtaining all prescriptions and / or Certificate of Medical Necessity forms required for internal and external policies and regulations and for billing to insurance companies. Conducts or arranges in-service for staff relating to respiratory equipment services. Obtain, review and communicate with the applicable Customer Service Representative, physician, and/or facility any needed customer documentation and/or insurance information as required in order to qualify the patient for respiratory equipment. Available for 24 hours on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays. All clinical respiratory services will be administered in accordance with organization’s policies and job descriptions, federal, state, and local laws, and established regulatory guidelines as dictated by the State Respiratory Care Board. QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be professional, proactive and positive with internal and external customers and coworkers. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). A medical related degree is preferred. One year of durable medical equipment, hospital or other relevant experience or a combination of education and experience. Must be registered or certified as a licensed respiratory therapist. Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance with a good driving record. Must be able to pass a background check. Skills & Abilities Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Customer service orientation Attention to detail Good data entry skills Proficiency with computers, with strong typing skills Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Language Skills English (written, verbal) Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using a calculator. Analytical & Problem Solving Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAINING

Orientation and selected courses must be completed in the designated time frame. Must complete annual vent training and other competencies as required by management.
