Master Control OperatorOur stations deliver local news, syndicated programming, sports, and network content across multiple channels and digital platforms. Position Summary The Master Control Operator (MCO) is responsible for monitoring and controlling the on-air transmission of programming and commercial content across multiple television stations and subchannels. This role ensures seamless broadcast execution, compliance with FCC regulations, and high technical standards across all station feeds. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, multi-channel environment and demonstrates strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and independent decision-making skills. Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and control on-air signals for multiple broadcast stations and subchannelsOperate and manage broadcast automation systems across station propertiesEnsure accurate playout of programming, commercials, promos, EAS alerts, and graphicsSwitch live programming and breaking news feeds as directedIngest and prepare content for air across multiple stationsMaintain accurate FCC and station logsPerform quality assurance checks for audio, video, and closed captioningTroubleshoot technical issues and escalate to engineering as neededCoordinate with traffic, programming, and news departmentsExecute special event broadcasts and network join/leave proceduresQualificationsHigh school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree in Broadcast Technology, Communications, or related field preferred1+ years of master control or broadcast operations experience preferredExperience with multi-channel automation systems (Florical)Working knowledge of FCC rules and compliance requirementsStrong organizational and multitasking skillsAbility to remain composed during technical disruptionsExcellent communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamTechnical SkillsBroadcast automation and playout systemsVideo servers, routers, and switchersSatellite and IP-based feed monitoringAudio/video signal analysisBasic networking and IT troubleshootingWork Environment This position operates in a 24/7 broadcast environment. Operators must be available for varied shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
