Shop Technician

The Shop Technician works as part of the shop team, splitting time evenly between the receiving and assembly sections of the facility. This role focuses on diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, assembling and reassembling vehicle components, and ensuring high-quality fit and finish on both interior and exterior parts. The technician also inspects incoming and outgoing vehicles, documents findings, and maintains accurate service records while keeping the work area clean and organized.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical issues on vehicles and perform technical repairs to resolve identified problems.
• Read and interpret assembly guidelines and instructions provided by OEM service engineers.
• Reassemble interior components and ensure proper fit and finish of exterior components, including doors and trim.
• Inspect incoming and outgoing vehicles carefully to identify any defects, damage, or additional service needs.
• Document additional issues found during inspection or repair and communicate them promptly to the appropriate leader.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of services performed and equipment used.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for assembly, disassembly, and repair tasks.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including cleaning and organizing the workstation at the end of each shift.
• Communicate with customers as needed to explain identified issues and outline the steps required to repair their vehicles.
• Collaborate with team members in both the receiving and assembly areas to support efficient workflow and high-quality output.

Essential Skills

• Basic automotive experience with 6 months to 1 year of hands-on work.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and perform technical repairs on vehicles.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools, including working with nuts and bolts, and ownership of a basic tool set.
• Ability to read and understand assembly guidelines and technical instructions from OEM service engineers.
• Mechanical aptitude in repair, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and general maintenance technician tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or technical drawings as needed.
• Capability to lift 5 to 50 pounds throughout the shift and perform frequent bending, moving, and twisting with this weight.
• Reliable attendance and consistent work habits.
• Strong communication skills to clearly explain vehicle issues and repair steps to customers.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills and processes.
• Openness to transferring to another facility location once a new building opens, as required by business needs.

Work Environment

The role operates on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Technicians have dedicated workstations where they perform repairs and assemblies on vehicles, with tools and equipment organized and readily available nearby. The facility is spacious, very clean, and designed to support efficient workflow. While not fully temperature controlled, the environment remains comfortable with fans and vents helping to maintain a normal working temperature. At the end of each shift, technicians clean and organize their stations to keep the shop orderly and safe.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
