This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, evaluate, design, implement, and support a wide range of network technologies—including LAN, MAN, WAN, Wireless, VPN, content networking, unified communications, and advanced security solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in switching, routing, firewall, VPN, wireless, content networking, load balancing, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, and network management systems, and demonstrates a passion for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and technical mentorship.What you’ll do:Research, design, plan, and implement new network technologies into the current operating environment, including participation in beta tests and evaluation of emerging solutions.Investigate, recommend, and implement enhancements to existing network services, defining ROI and following change control methodologies.Configure, troubleshoot, and support complex IP network solutions, including network security systems and protocols.Define and follow standards and best practices for network design, testing, and implementation; document the environment thoroughly.Configure, deploy, fine-tune, monitor, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, support, and repair the Gartner global network as required.Provide training to regional site staff and Operations Center personnel.Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and continuously improve processes and practices.Serve as a key escalation point for the Operations Center and other on-call network engineers.What you’ll need:Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent knowledge with 6 to 10 years of related professional experience.Professional Experience: 5+ years of direct engineering and design experience in global enterprise networks. Cisco CCNP/CCDP or CCIE certifications preferred.Technical Skills & Competencies: Expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting scalable, reliable network architectures with a focus on fault tolerance, performance, monitoring, and disaster recovery.Advanced hands-on experience with Cisco routers, switches, 802.11 wireless access points, Palo Alto Firewalls, Infoblox DNS/DHCP, and F5 load balancers.Experience with Cisco SDWAN and Palo Alto firewalls is required; Palo Alto certification (PCNSE or equivalent) is highly preferred.In-depth understanding of transport, routing, and security/authentication protocols at all OSI layers, with emphasis on TCP/IP.Subject matter expertise in IP routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IP Multicast, MPLS) and proficiency with VLAN, VRF, HSRP, Port Security, Traffic Shaping, Priority Queuing, and Class of Service (CoS).Advanced knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, IOS, IOS-XE, VPC, and experience with Cisco and F5 hardware.Experience writing, testing, and optimizing iRules; familiarity with F5 LTM, F5 GTM, Viprion class LTM, Perl, Tcl, iControl is a plus.Strong knowledge of networking features/protocols: spanning tree, ARP, CDP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, MLS, HSRP, QoS, multicast, 802.11, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, 802.1x, and caching services.Experience with network management tools (Sniffers, Ethereal, MRTG, SolarWinds, CA) and supporting Windows/UNIX systems on networking technologies.Certifications/experience equivalent to MCSE, Solaris, and Linux are a bonus.Python, Terraform, and/or Ansible experience for network automation is required.Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center and SDN/SDWAN implementation is a plus.Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with internal customers, vendors, and management.Strong analytical, technical, and independent decision-making skills.Strategic planning, project management, organizational, and time management skills to handle multiple complex enterprise projects simultaneously.What you’ll receive:Competitive compensation.Limitless growth and learning opportunities.A collaborative and positive culture - join a diverse team of professionals that are as smart and driven as you.A chance to make an impact – your work will contribute directly to our strategy.Enjoy the flexibility of working from home and the energy of collaborating with peers in our dynamic offices.20+ PTO days plus holidays and floating holidays in your first year.Extensive medical, dental insurance and vision plan.401K with corporate match, immediate vesting.Health-and-wellness-related allowance programs.Parental leave.Tuition reimbursement.Employee Stock Purchase Plan.Employee Assistance Program.Gartner Gives Charity Match.
