Billing Specialist

We are looking for a Billing Specialist to join our Administrative Services team. This position plays an important role in keeping our Health Center’s revenue cycle moving by processing payments, monitoring claims, resolving billing issues, and making sure our billing records are accurate and complete. Essential Functions Submit, post, and process insurance and patient payments, electronic remittance advices (ERAs), and hardcopy remittance advices. Review, code, and enter billing and payment information into billing, financial, and electronic health record systems. Submit and monitor medical claims and follow up to help ensure timely reimbursement. Research and resolve claim denials, rejections, underpayments, missing payments, and other billing discrepancies. Work directly with insurance companies and other payers to resolve claim and payment issues. Submit corrected claims and appeals when necessary. Review medical coding and billing information for accuracy and work with providers and staff to resolve documentation or coding concerns. Reconcile patient accounts and assist with collection and account resolution activities. Review patient eligibility, insurance coverage, and sliding-fee documentation. Assist patients and Patient Service Representatives with billing questions, statements, payments, and billing concerns. Prepare invoices, billing reports, credit-balance reports, and other revenue-cycle reports. Conduct routine audits of claims, billing records, sliding-fee scales, and patient accounts. Maintain accurate billing documentation in accordance with FQHC, HIPAA, payer, and organizational requirements. Assist with insurance eligibility verification and other front-end revenue-cycle functions when needed. Provide occasional billing or administrative support during immunization clinics and other agency activities. Requirements High school diploma or GED. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong data-entry, mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet established deadlines. Ability to work independently. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Understanding of HIPAA requirements and the importance of protecting confidential patient and financial information.
