Business Service Center Specialist III - Wages Support, Student Success

Job Summary The Business Service Center Specialist III supports the Business Service Center in managing financial and human resources operations. This role analyzes and updates procedures to improve efficiency and productivity. Core Responsibilities Manage and oversee complex financial and business transaction processes to support the Business Service Center, providing functional supervision or acting as a lead for BSC staff and resolving complex work issues. Receive, review, analyze, and process complex business, financial, and payroll/personnel-related transactions in various University software systems, including accounting, budget development, purchasing, travel, records management, and project scheduling. Act as a resource for BSC staff by providing training on accounting, purchasing, procurement, travel, and account reconciliation, and may assign and review the work of others. Work closely with the unit manager to implement processes that improve data integration and overall process improvements across all functional areas. Prepare, analyze, and create statistical, financial, and ad‑hoc reports; provide policy input and recommendations for improving business process management systems and procedures. Examine budgets for accuracy and compliance, compiling and analyzing financial information to post entries to an automated finance system, allocate expenditures, review requisitions, and coordinate with vendors regarding product or service information. Coordinate recruitment and hiring efforts for exempt and non‑exempt personnel, creating employment requisitions and reviewing applications. Ensure timely and accurate processing of all personnel actions in the HRIS, collaborating with People Excellence on employee relations and compensation matters. Identify and resolve issues, discrepancies, or inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures. Maintain confidentiality and ensure the safety of all sensitive information related to this role. Act as liaison between departments and internal or external customers, engaging clients via telephone, electronic, or face‑to‑face interactions to support transactional needs and promptly resolve inquiries and complaints. Attend meetings and may serve on committees on behalf of BSC. Complete special projects, assignments, and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree can substitute for experience on a one‑for‑one basis. Seven (7) years of related work experience in Purchasing, Travel, Financial Reporting, or Human Resources. Ability to maintain security and integrity of UT San Antonio’s infrastructure. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited university. Experience with an electronic application recruiting system. Experience with PeopleSoft and PeopleSoft eForms (two years). Experience with Banner or equivalent student system (two years). Experience with Rowdy Exchange. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Verbal and written communication Collaboration Attention to detail Ability to multitask Deadline driven Calendar management Customer service Microsoft Office Suite Working Conditions Office environment Ability to travel to meetings, training sessions, or other business‑related events Workdays, areas, and hours may vary based on departmental needs Physical Demands Sedentary work (sitting most of the time); occasional walking and standing; may lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally. This position requires working both remotely in Texas and on campus, subject to change depending on department needs. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility. This position is contingent upon a successful background check, verification of a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) if applicable, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
