This role performs production welding using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), and SMAW (Stick Welding) to fabricate steel components according to procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and verbal instructions. You will primarily weld flat butt and vertical up joints, working in pairs to fabricate chassis assemblies in the weld-out area just before sandblasting and final preparation for wiring and plumbing. The position involves both set-up and fabrication work, including layout using fixtures and guides, as well as routine equipment operation and basic maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform wire welding using GMAW (Mig), FCAW (Flux Core), and SMAW (Stick) processes on steel components according to established procedures and work instructions.
- Interpret and follow job order specifications, blueprints, diagrams, layouts, and oral instructions to complete welding and fabrication tasks accurately.
- Execute welds ranging from simple tack welds to complex welds in various positions, with a primary focus on flat butt welds and vertical up welds.
- Work in pairs to fabricate chassis assemblies in the weld-out area prior to sandblasting and preparation for wiring and plumbing.
- Set up workpieces using fixtures, guides, and appropriate tools to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and equipment products.
- Operate related equipment and tools, including forklifts, hoists, slings, portable and bench grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, tape measures, and Air Arc equipment.
- Measure, mark, and lay out materials accurately to ensure proper fit, alignment, and weld quality.
- Perform preventive maintenance on welding and related equipment by following manufacturers’ instructions, completing daily check sheets, and reporting issues promptly.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs to keep welding equipment operational and safe.
- Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines while handling welding equipment, lifting materials, and operating material-handling devices.
- Lift and move materials up to 70 pounds as required during the welding and fabrication process.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are stored and used properly.
Essential Skills

- Proficiency in Mig welding (GMAW) with the ability to produce sound welds on steel components.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, job orders, and work instructions, including interpreting dimensions and layouts.
- Basic experience with fabrication processes, including layout, fit-up, and use of fixtures and guides.
- Capability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Familiarity with using grinders (portable and bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, and tape measures in a welding environment.
- Ability to follow written procedures, manufacturers’ instructions, and safety guidelines consistently.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for identifying and addressing common welding equipment issues.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure weld quality, proper fit, and adherence to specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a vocational school program, industrial trades training, weld class, or welding technology coursework.
- Knowledge of blueprint and weld symbols (blueprint symbol proficiency is preferred but not required).
- Experience using forklifts, hoists, slings, and other material-handling equipment.
- Exposure to multiple welding processes, including FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) and SMAW (Stick Welding).
- Comfort working in a production or manufacturing environment with chassis or structural fabrication.
Why Work Here?
You join a stable manufacturing environment where hands-on welding skills are valued and developed through consistent, real-world fabrication work. The schedule offers a predictable first-shift workday with limited overtime extensions, supporting work–life balance. You gain exposure to a variety of welding processes, tools, and fabrication techniques, which can strengthen your experience and support future certification or career growth. The team-based approach, especially working in pairs on chassis fabrication, fosters collaboration and shared problem-solving on the shop floor.

You work primarily on first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m ., with the possibility of overtime during the week extending the day to 3:30 p.m. The environment involves frequent use of welding equipment (GMAW/Mig, FCAW, SMAW), grinders, cutting torches, drills, punches, and Air Arc tools, along with forklifts, hoists, and slings for material handling. You will work around heavy steel components, welding fumes, noise, and typical fabrication shop conditions, following standard safety practices and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
