Travel Surgical Technologist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930-$2,080
• Location: Madison, Wisconsin
• Assignment Type: Travel contract
• Start Date: November 2, 2026
• Assignment Duration: Approximately 17 weeks, with longer extensions potentially available
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day/evening shifts
• Shift Hours: Generally 10:40 a.m. to 11:10 p.m., with Monday-Friday schedule variation
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours per week
• Call: Weekend call approximately every 4-5 weekends, from Friday at 3:00 p.m. through Monday at 7:00 a.m.; team members are not scheduled on the Friday they are assigned weekend call
• Additional Scheduling: Four 12-hour shifts may be considered
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Work Environment: Cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) within a large, high-acuity teaching hospital

CVOR Surgical Technologist Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent surgical technologist scrub experience
• Strong independent CVOR experience; this role requires solo scrubbing without a second scrub
• Experience in a Level I trauma hospital or a similar-size, high-acuity teaching hospital required
• Demonstrated expertise in complex cardiac and thoracic procedures, including CABG, ascending aortic procedures, LVAD/VAD, mitral valve procedures, ECMO, thoracic robotic surgery, lobectomy, VATS, and lung resection
• Experience with kidney and liver transplant procedures strongly preferred
• Experience with tracheostomy, vascular, endovascular, trauma, general, and laparoscopic procedures
• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent surgical technologist experience
• Current CST certification and AHA BLS certification required
• Ability to care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Willingness to float as needed
• Ability to complete required pre-start competency testing, including cardiac rhythm interpretation testing, within the designated number of attempts
• Travelers must reside at least 50 miles from the worksite; local candidates are not accepted

CVOR Surgical Technologist Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, equipment, instruments, and supplies for scheduled cardiovascular and thoracic procedures
• Scrub independently for complex cardiac, thoracic, vascular, transplant, trauma, and general surgery cases
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and provide efficient intraoperative instrument, equipment, and supply support
• Support procedures involving CABG, valve replacement, aortic repair, LVAD/VAD, ECMO, thoracic robotics, VATS, lobectomy, lung resection, and transplant surgery
• Maintain sterile technique and promote patient safety throughout the surgical procedure
• Perform counts and carefully manage surgical instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies
• Assist with room turnover and ensure the operating room is ready for subsequent cases
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nurses, and other members of the perioperative team
• Provide safe, attentive care for patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Participate in weekend call coverage and float assignments as required
