About Us Spokane Falls Community College is seeking qualified candidates for consideration of employment as Sociology Adjunct Instructor in the Social Science, Business, and Human Services (SSBHS) division. We seek applicants with a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, diversity and global awareness, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The college strives for faculty who are content experts and who are knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. We seek applications for an adjunct (part-time) teaching position with the ability to teach in-person at our Pullman center located on the WSU campus in Pullman Washington as well as online for Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems courses. About the Sociology Instructor - Adjunct - Pullman, WA
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepares for and instructs lower-division sociology courses online or on-ground.
- Provides availability and accessibility to students for the purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet students' needs, through a combination of office hours, email accessibility, or other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
- Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
- Demonstrates commitment to advancing diversity, promoting equity, and preparing students to live responsibly in an increasingly global civilization.
- Demonstrates commitment to serving a socially and culturally diverse student population.
- Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
- Models professional decorum and mutual respect in personal interactions.
- Complies with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
- Supports and advances the Spokane Colleges strategic plan and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QULIFICATIONS:
- An earned Master's degree in Sociology from an accredited institution. OR An earned Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution with 25 graduate credits in sociology (minimum of one theory course required).
- Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
- A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of Spokane Colleges.
- Demonstrated competence in working with diverse student populations and an appreciation for diverse voices in the classroom.
- Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
DESIRED QULIFICATIONS
- A PhD in Sociology.
- Prior community college teaching experience.
- Additional experience in teaching a variety of teaching modalities, specifically hybrid/blended classes.
- Experience in the field of sociology or a related field.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
