Middle School Science Teacher

General Science Teacher for Grades 7–8, with Biology

The Rome City School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered General Science Teacher for grades 7–8, with Biology. Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver engaging lessons in General Science and Biology aligned with New York State Learning Standards.

• Foster a positive, inquiry-based classroom culture that supports critical thinking and scientific literacy.

• Use differentiated instruction and hands-on learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students.

• Integrate topics such as life systems, ecology, human biology, cell biology, and the scientific method in a developmentally appropriate way.

• Assess student understanding through varied formative and summative assessments.

• Collaborate with colleagues, including special education and support staff, to promote academic success in inclusive settings.

• Maintain regular communication with families and participate in parent conferences, team meetings, and school events.

• Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional practices and curriculum implementation.

Qualifications:

• Must possess a valid New York State General Science 7–12 Teaching Certification.

• Biology Certification or extension preferred.

• Strong content knowledge in biology and general science at the middle school level.

• Experience with differentiated instruction, student-centered learning, and classroom management.

• Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.

• Effective communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
