Bridge Inspection Team Leader/Manager

Bridge Inspection Team Leader/Manager Hybrid – flexible location. Overview Responsible for the leadership and expansion of VHB’s bridge inspection practice across our footprint. The role involves planning and executing bridge inspections, managing a skilled team, ensuring quality, and collaborating with senior leadership to grow the practice. Successful candidates may also engage in complex bridge design and load‑rating work. Responsibilities Lead and supervise a team of bridge inspectors, overseeing quality, procedures, workload, and training. Strategize team development and growth in partnership with senior leadership. Prepare proposals for new inspection contracts in collaboration with the marketing team. Plan and perform structural inspections of highway, railroad bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, and buildings in compliance with NHI and AREMA Standards. Review inspection report narratives, sketches, photos, and basic repair/rehabilitation cost estimates for quality. Manage inspection equipment and budget to outfit teams with current gear. Mentor junior staff and support the expansion of the inspection practice across VHB. Skills & Abilities Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and adjacent to live highway or railroad traffic. Familiarity with MBTA, MassDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA inspection requirements. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proactive, self‑motivated, with strong attention to detail. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Enthusiasm to learn, seek opportunities, and take responsibility. Willingness to work overnight and in challenging access situations. Experience with vertical lift equipment, under‑bridge inspection trucks, and rope access credentials is a plus. Qualifications 8+ years of bridge inspection experience. B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred). Completion of the NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges course preferred. Completion of the NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical (NSTM) course preferred. Valid driver’s license. Salary Boston/Watertown, MA: $115,000–170,000.
