Groundman - Portable Asphalt Plant (Seasonal, Statewide Travel) Manatt's Groundman - Portable Asphalt Plant (Seasonal, Statewide Travel) Newton, IA 50208 Summary The Groundman will support daily operations at the portable asphalt plant, including general labor, plant maintenance, equipment assistance, and ensuring safe, efficient production. This role is essential to keeping plant operations running smoothly while working alongside a strong, experienced team. Must be able to operate a skid loader. Additional or other duties may be assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Additional or other duties may be assigned. Assist with setup, operation, and tear-down of the portable asphalt plant. Serves as a standard bearer for Manatt’s mission to safely do everything we do better than anyone else and purpose of building legacies through standards of excellence. Arrives at designated jobsite and receives assignment from the foreman. Performs any combination of following tasks: digs, spreads, and levels dirt, rock, earth, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials and combination of materials using hand tools. At times may be required to run power equipment and water truck for cleaning of the plant sites. Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as sweeping and shoveling debris from plant site. May be required to grease certain areas of the plant on a daily basis May be required to grease, oil or fuel equipment or tools on a daily basis. Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or compounds over surfaces for protection. Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces. Reports unsafe conditions to foreman and reports all mishaps and injuries, no matter how slight. Performs assigned work following safety procedures. Cleans up working area, maintains tools and returns them when assignment complete. Reports to foreman at end of each day to leave timecard and receive next day’s assignment. Listens and coordinates with team members and available resources to ensure every team member can be their best self, analyzes and resolves work obstacles and assists in solving problems. Takes initiative when assigned work is complete to help in other tasks or jobs. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Previous construction experience preferred. Language Skills Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Other Qualifications Ability to work long hours, including weekends during peak season. Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor and in industrial environments. Ability to work seasonally.
