Job Summary In this full-time role, you will be the engine of the Verona St. Vincent de Paul thrift store team, which is tasked with delivering excellent service to our customers, donors and clients. The fundamental responsibility of this role is to manage employees and the day-to-day operations of the store by coordinating staff schedules, providing ongoing training, and fostering a positive atmosphere. By focusing on both customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, the Store Manager strives to maximize the store’s overall productivity and profitability. What You’ll Do Train, supervise and coach store personnel while implementing Store Sales Policies established by the Store Committee and BOD and work rules outlined in the Employee Handbook. Make discipline recommendations to the SDRO/ADRO. Manage departmental structure, development, and proper stocking and rotation of all thrift store merchandise. Maintain proper cash handling and point-of-sale procedures. Plan and manage projects related to departmental functions. Manage and support change with direct reports. Respond creatively and effectively to the challenges of running a profitable facility through sales promotions and expense control. Forecast and plan sales budgets. Maintain a pleasant, professional, service-oriented environment by modeling expected behavior for other employees and promoting a sense of teamwork and good morale among the staff. Make reasonable attempts to solve problems arising from customers, volunteers, clients, donors, and staff while utilizing de-escalation skills. Any unresolved problems or policy violations are to be referred to the SDRO/ADRO and/or reported to HR as outlined in the employee handbook. Monitor staffing levels and make recommendations for hiring new employees to the SDRO/ADRO. All offers of employment must have specific authorization by the Senior Director of Retail Operations. Make accurate judgments of acceptable items for resale-based donation acceptance list and current needs of the store. Handle, load, and unload donated items and production, including furniture, boxes, bags, pallets, and other miscellaneous large items. Meet deadlines for employee reviews and formal coaching expectations. Communicate and represent the interests and needs of the store to the SDRO/ADRO. Act as a champion of safety in the workplace, supporting programs, training, and tools that keep employees engaged in safety initiatives, effectively meeting compliance requirements and communicating issues or hazards to Senior leadership. Communicate facility maintenance problems to the Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes. Work with the Safety Manager to implement safety policies through training, reporting safety hazards, and correcting unsafe employee practices. Attend management meetings as scheduled by the Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations. Work hand in hand with staff to maximize production efficiencies and promote a spirit of teamwork within the store. Hold regularly scheduled meetings with staff to communicate policy and procedure changes and other essential information to keep employees updated. Maintain a work balance of 30% office work and 70% floor supervision and production oversight. Maintain Google calendar for proper time management proficiencies. Actively contributes to a more equitable and inclusive organization. Play an integral role in fostering a culture of equity and inclusion within the organization. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Directors of Retail Operations or Executive Directors. Other Primary Duties – Human Resources & Leadership Provide Human Resources support and information to directors, managers, and staff. Collaborate with staff on human resource projects and other committees. Prepare payroll – employee scheduling, approving PTO requests, keeping accurate time records, and documentation in accordance with the Attendance Policy. Noting FMLA, Sick time, and reasons for absence or lateness in the timecard. Assist staff with requests and questions regarding Paylocity or applicable HRIS platform. Support efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable organization. Participating in teamwork and collaboration, listening, foster dialogue, and facilitating joint problem-solving while supporting an inclusive and equitable organization. Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position Requirements ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Experience with Counterpoint or a similar POS system, Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications and typing 55 words per minute A minimum of two years of retail management or supervisory capacity Proven analytics skills, including research and evaluation Ability to understand trends in data, visualize their impact, and assist Directors and other leaders in using data to support growth and improve processes and/or performance Excellent writing skills and communication skills, including writing reports and leading presentations Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment Continual learner, willing to seek additional opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and skills. Must manage deadlines well, planning and fulfilling responsibilities with minimal direction Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen with a safety-sensitive position PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The mental and physical requirements described here represent those that an individual must meet to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. This employee must have the ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse population as represented by the employees, customers, and clients of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs. with assistance from equipment or another person. The employee must be able to fulfill schedule requirements and work assigned shifts consistently and reliably. The Thrift store and Processing Center working environment may contain dust, debris or allergens commonly associated with all manner of pre-owned clothing, furniture and household goods.
