Shop Lead - Swing Shift

Brief Description Due to increased demand, this position is currently scheduled on a swing shift at the Ruston, LA manufacturing facility. The shift operates from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM and includes a shift differential. The Shop Lead works with other leads to meet deliveries to customers. Responsible for daily/weekly scheduled goals. Assists with scheduling to maintain reports and shop schedules. Encourages positive attitudes and motivates to create a good work environment. Key Responsibilities

• Manage workflow by directing workers to the proper priorities. • Maintain a safe work environment.
• Train employees in properly operating fabrication tooling and equipment.
• Update the Fabrication/Production Manager on all production and scheduling issues.
• Maintain schedule with priorities and special needs addressed.
• Work with quality control to address job priorities and maintain a high-quality product.
• Operate and maintain stations to assemble, align, and adjust fabricated parts, components, or units according to specifications and follows established manufacturing procedures.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing equipment to assemble units.
• Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to ensure all components meet tolerances, product specifications, and quality standards.
• Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift.
• Demonstrate safe working practices and standards.

Scope of Decision-Making Authority

1. Health, Safety, and Environment: All employees have the right to refuse any task they believe is unsafe and must report such refusals immediately to a supervisor, Human Resources, or the Safety Coordinator for investigation. Employees are expected to intervene when they identify unsafe conditions or behaviors, including environmental risks, and take steps to prevent injury, illness, or property damage. Every employee also has a responsibility to actively contribute to maintaining safe and healthy working conditions by participating in health and safety activities, complying with company policies, and promptly reporting unsafe situations.
2. Technical Decisions: Authorized to make day-to-day technical decisions related to fabrication, assembly, tooling, equipment use, workflow priorities, and product quality within established procedures, specifications, and safety requirements. Escalates complex technical issues, nonconformances, or decisions outside established standards to the Fabrication/Production Manager.
3. Policy Interpretation: Applies and reinforces established company policies, procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and work instructions in daily shop activities. Refers unclear policy questions, exceptions, or matters requiring formal interpretation to the appropriate supervisor, Human Resources, or Safety representative.
4. Financial Authority: May make recommendations related to equipment, tooling, materials, supplies, and process needs. Does not have independent authority to approve expenditures, pricing, contracts, or financial commitments unless specifically delegated through established approval processes.
5. People & Resource Management: Provides day-to-day work direction, training, task prioritization, and guidance to shop employees. May provide input on staffing needs, performance concerns, scheduling, and training requirements, but does not have independent authority to hire, terminate, discipline, or make compensation decisions.
6. Continuous Improvement: Identifies and recommends improvements to shop workflow, safety practices, quality processes, tooling, equipment use, and production efficiency. May support implementation of approved improvements within assigned work areas and escalates changes requiring additional resources, approvals, or cross-functional support.

Qualifications (Required) Education, Licenses, & Certifications: • High school diploma or GED. Experience: * Minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication, production, assembly, or a related manufacturing environment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate material requirements and measure part tolerances accurately.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adjust to changing priorities.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to interact professionally and positively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting and maintaining a safe working environment.

Other Valued Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Preferred)

• Experience in steel manufacturing.
• Prior leadership experience.

Physical Requirements

• Mobility: Required to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, crouch, walk, climb, balance, speak, and hear.
• Manual Dexterity: Must be able to use hands and arms to reach for objects; requires close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Lifting/Carrying: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Environmental Factors: Majority of work is performed in a warehouse and manufacturing shop environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, forklifts, electricity, and moderate to high noise levels.
