About Seattle Girls’ School Founded in 2000, Seattle Girls’ School (SGS) is a small independent middle school for girls and gender expansive students located in Seattle’s Central District. With 108 students enrolled for the 25-26 school year, our mission is to inspire and develop courageous leaders who think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change. SGS educates a diverse student body in grades 5-8. The annual budget is just under $5 million, and there are 30 staff and faculty as well as 15 committed board members. Learn more about our school at: About the Position The Communications Specialist plays a key role in elevating the profile of SGS in support of admissions, fundraising, internal and external communications, brand awareness and alumni relations. They identify target audiences, set objectives, and execute on content development, digital communications, and SGS participation in speaking events and conferences. They capture and promote SGS’s impact to target audiences, including prospective and current parents and donors. Reports to the Director of Enrollment Management, and works closely with the Development Coordinator and Head of School. Principal Duties and Responsibilities In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Management, develop, manage and implement a comprehensive communications calendar that is effective across all channels. In partnership with the Development Coordinator, promote and support the Advancement function at the school by developing print and online collateral for year-end appeal, donor stewardships, fundraising emails, and fundraising events like our Annual Luncheon. Create and publish all print and online communications, including website, admissions materials, development invitations and appeals, e-newsletters, social media, annual reports, and weekly internal newsletter for families Manage or produce graphic design and collateral needs, as well as photo and video needs; photograph and film weekly school happenings and events, build and maintain SGS’s library of photos and videos; manage communications vendors like videographers, graphic designers, printers and/or PR consultants. Monitor and analyze the performance of marketing efforts and provide recommendations for improvement. Participate in the school community through lunch duty and weekly student assemblies; other duties as assigned. As a central component of all work, develop messaging that aligns with SGS’s values, namely elevating the many assets and strengths of our students, our alums, and our community. Qualifications –work, volunteer, academic, and other life experience are all acceptable and valuable for satisfying qualifications. 2+ years of experience in communications, ideally with an emphasis on graphic design Broad base of storytelling and writing skills that can be deployed across a wide variety of channels–from print to video to speeches to social media. Proven ability to collaborate as part of a team with a highly flexible approach, offering the ability and desire to both lead and support other staff members’ efforts. Ability to “manage up, down, and across” to use staff time effectively to achieve goals. Resourceful and results-oriented self-starter, with an ability to thrive in an authentic, feedback-driven culture and roll-up-your-sleeves environment. Good interpersonal skills and a customer service approach Ability to occasionally work after hours, as necessary Employment is subject to satisfactory completion of a criminal record and fingerprint check pursuant to RCW 28A.195.080. We are committed to staff learning, growth and development. Our investment includes: Competitive salaries. The compensation for this position is $31.00/hour-$33.50/hour. SGS is committed to transparent, equitable compensation practices. Hourly rates are benchmarked using current market data and bands are created to demonstrate the growth potential within the band. Typically, offers are made at the starting place of the band. Generous time off including 20 vacation days and 10 paid non-vacation days for medical or family leave.
