We are seeking an inspiring and creative Baker and Leader for our scratch made Independent Grocer Bakery Department! Come join our Family Owned and Operated Team!
Position Summary:
Direct and supervise all functions and activities of the Bakery Department and its Associates. Creatively and positively motivate the team to achieve the department’s goals. Including but not limited to Sales, Gross Profit, Associate Engagement, and a positive Customer Experience. Follow and enforce all standard operating policies and procedures with Bakery Associates. Promote and maintain Green Valley’s mission, values, and culture. Provide exceptional communication and build positive relationships with internal and external customers and team members.
Essential Duties:
- Perform all duties in accordance with all Company policies, procedures, and programs, and all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations, including all environmental, health, safety and security policies, programs, laws and regulations.
- Perform all duties in accordance with HAACP and Food Handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment in accordance with standards.
- Clearly communicate and consistently enforce department and Company safety policies and procedures.
- Observe all safety regulations when operating equipment and utilize Personal Protective Equipment.
- Supervise the proper use of all equipment by Associates, including Personal Protective Equipment.
- Understand and adhere to all procedures in emergency situations.
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order; immediately advise Store Management of any maintenance or equipment problems.
- Ensure that Associates operating power equipment (slicing machines, etc.) are 18 years of age or older.
- Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise that weights 25 lbs., and that occasionally weights up to 60 lbs.
- Unload trucks and transport merchandise to Bakery Department that weighs 25 lbs., and that occasionally weighs 60 lbs.
- Maintain all temperature logs and production sheets.
- Set up and maintain a proper cleaning maintenance schedule for the entire department.
- Successfully complete training to receive and maintain a Company recognized Food Safety Certification.
- Greet, and ensure Associates, all Customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service, and assistance.
- Assist with the onboarding of new department Associates, including interviewing, selection, and training.
- Provide continual training, developmental action planning, and meaningful feedback on job performance to Associates.
- Maintain an open line of communication and work cooperatively with all team members, in store and other stores.
- Lead Associates to work cooperatively while encouraging enthusiasm, loyalty, and creativity.
- Sample new items and seasonal favorites to stimulate Customer interest and demand.
- Encourage and recognize Associates to provide a positive Customer Experience.
- Portray a professional appearance and be a positive role model for all Associates in the department in accordance with the Dress Code Policy.
- Ensure Unit Price Labels (tags) for all items are maintained and are current.
- Monitor Bakery storage area for cleanliness, neatness, and preparation for next shift.
- Ensure all merchandise is fully stocked and rotated in display cases, shelves, and other applicable displays according to tag allocation and department standards.
- Ensure all products are blocked and faced in accordance with policy or as assigned.
- Ensure that featured sale merchandise is signed in accordance with Company and regulatory standards.
- Verify accuracy of invoices to actual product received.
- Ensure all reports and records are accurate, complete, and retained in accordance with Company policy.
- Ensure the quality of all products received and secure properly in appropriate storage areas.
- Ensure the accuracy of item pricing, item locator, and shelf allocation.
- Ensure in-store pricing procedures and in-store transfers are followed in accordance with Company policy.
- Understand the impact of department financials and how to adjust department operations to ensure goals are achieved.
- Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines as relates to Bakery Operations.
- Maintain proper staffing to meet projected sales and Customer Experience needs.
- Complete all applicable department training programs.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance and work overtime as assigned.
- Assist as needed in preparation of food products, catering, and special orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Interpersonal Savvy. Must be able to relate well to all kinds of people both inside and outside B. Green; build appropriate rapport; build constructive and effective relationships; use diplomacy and tact; can diffuse even high-tension situations comfortably.
- Supervisory. This position manages employees and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Bakery, at times open 24 hrs a day. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, scheduling, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems following B. Green’s protocols.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred, not required.
- Possess a minimum of 2 years of Bakery leadership, in a Grocery or Retail environment.
- 1 year experience working as Department Management, preferred.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
- Ability to perform basic math, and basic computer functions.
- Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way.
- Ability to engage and lead Associates to achieve department goals.
- Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions, must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Excellent customer service, and leadership skills in order to work with a diverse population.
- Excellent relationship building skills.

The incumbent must have:
- Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures.
- Ability to work with fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices and powdered substances without negative allergic consequences.
- Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racking and storage areas.
- Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs is required.
- Ability to work in refrigerated coolers and high moisture rooms for extended periods of time.
- Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
Work Environment: Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work environment is based in a retail store. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Work Schedule: Full-time role equating to 40 hrs. or more, on average. Hours may fluctuate based upon business needs. Must have ability to work a varied work schedule that changes, and a variety of shifts.
