Position Summary

This position is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role involves directing and coordinating nursing care based on established practice standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care, achieving optimal patient outcomes. The candidate will also serve as a resource when needed, considering age-specific and cultural diversity factors in patient care.

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Completion of a nursing program from an NLN approved institution.
• Minimum Experience: Preferred one year of experience in a healthcare setting as a Registered Nurse.
• License, Certification, Registration: Must hold a current, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse license in Alaska. Current BLS certification is required.

Equipment/Tools

Familiarity with office equipment (such as computers, telephones, fax machines, and copy machines) and medical equipment relevant to the position (including EKG and Cystoscopy).

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to practice nursing per Alaska regulations governing Registered Nursing.
• Cognitive and technical skills necessary for managing care throughout the care continuum.
• Flexibility in work schedule with capability for independent actions within established guidelines.
• Ability to apply the nursing process in patient care provision.
• Competence in administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing educational support to patients and families.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficient in basic EKG and nursing skills.
• Adept at reading, analyzing, and interpreting professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
• Capable of documenting care delivery actions and following established procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to inquiries from diverse audiences.
• Theoretical understanding of nursing processes, care management, and continuity of care.
• Numerical competency, including the ability to perform basic mathematics and interpret data.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle variable situations effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position includes the supervision of unit secretaries and Patient Care Technicians in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.

Additional Information

• Guaranteed hours are 40 per week; however, the initial week will not have guaranteed hours as orientation begins on a Tuesday.
• All personnel are required to show proof of completed COVID vaccinations.
