Patient Care Technician - MSICU

Overview The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The PCT performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized, patient‑centered approach to care and achieve desired outcomes. Job Summary The PCT supports patient care by performing a range of essential tasks, including assisting with patient mobilization, performing basic nursing functions, monitoring patient status, and maintaining a safe environment. Minimum Training and Education High School Diploma or equivalent required (PCT I). Applicant must meet one of the following for PCT II: Associate or Bachelor’s degree. At least one year in a 0.6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS. One year of experience in a healthcare facility. Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution. Active enrollment in a healthcare‑related field from an accredited institution. Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certification from an accredited institution. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 2 weeks of hire and subsequently maintained. Must possess a current BLS certification from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors and outdoors, operate in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, perform confined space tasks, kneel, bend, twist, squat, pinch, manipulate objects, reach overhead, perform repetitive hand or wrist motions, maintain firm grasp, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and meet vision, hearing, and sensory criteria as described in detail. The position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as necessary, and a latex‑safe environment.
