Investigator – New York State Inspector General (OIG) Location: Albany, NY. OIG has offices in Albany, Buffalo, Hauppauge, New York City, Suffern, and Syracuse. The OIG, established under Executive Law Article 4-A, investigates complaints of fraud, corruption, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse in executive branch agencies of New York State. The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General focuses on public assistance programs, and the Office of the New York State Workers Compensation Fraud Inspector General investigates violations in the workers compensation system. Responsibilities Conduct confidential and sensitive investigations involving allegations of fraud, abuse, corruption, conflicts of interest, and other criminal activity within New York State agencies, employees, and contractors. Plan and execute administrative, civil, and criminal investigations with OIG attorneys and auditors. Utilize surveillance, witness/target interviews, digital forensics, and financial record analysis. Collaborate with federal, state, and local law enforcement to assist in referral and prosecution of criminal matters, providing testimony as needed. Document investigative activities and findings in written case activity reports; participate in drafting and editing public reports and findings letters. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years investigative experience with a local, state, or federal law enforcement or oversight agency. Peace Officer training required; DCJS-certified police or peace officer status is preferred but not required. Proficiency in using social media, law enforcement databases (Compass, EJustice, Accurint, Dun & Bradstreet, etc.) and digital forensic tools. Functional knowledge of audio/video surveillance equipment; proficiency in Excel, Acrobat, and other record‑analysis programs. Strong oral and written communication skills; collegial attitude; ability to work independently and as part of a team; multitasking and attention to detail. Occasional statewide travel; willingness to work unscheduled hours as necessary.
