RN - CVIC (Cardiovascular ICU)

Location: Portland, OR

Schedule / Job Type: Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (19:00–07:00) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide bedside critical care nursing to pediatric patients ranging from birth to young adulthood in a cardiovascular/pediatric intensive care setting.
• Perform and assist with bedside procedures including central line placement, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, intubations/extubations, CRRT initiation/discontinuation, ECMO cannulations/decannulations, chest exploration, and emergent operative procedures for patients unable to be transported to the OR.
• Operate and monitor specialized equipment including Hamilton G5 Ventilators, DirectLink ICP Monitors, Arctic Sun Targeted Temperature Management systems, and Baxter Prismaflex Machines.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and other specialists to deliver comprehensive, family-centered care.
• Float within the hospital to NICU and Pediatric Units as needed.
• Document all patient care using EPIC electronic health records.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (pending license considered if application has been submitted and received by the licensing board).
• Minimum 2 years of cardiovascular ICU experience; first-time travelers accepted with 3+ years of experience and PICU background.
• HARD STOP: Experience with CVICU and post-operative heart patients is required.
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA Traditional — RQI not accepted).
• EPIC experience required at time of submission.
• Must be available to work weekends.
• Must be available to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day).
• All time-off requests must be submitted upfront at the time of application (no more than 2 weeks of RTO).
• Compliance documentation due one week prior to start date; labs must be completed within 48 hours of signing.
• Must achieve a score of 85% or higher on required Relias exams.
• Work history verification required, covering the last seven years including city, state, dates of employment, and any PTO periods.
• References required.
• No background or license hits accepted; a comprehensive lifetime background review will be conducted.
• Locals are welcome; same rates apply.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• PALS certification (NRP preferred).
• Experience in a Magnet-designated, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center or teaching hospital environment.
• Familiarity with ECMO, CRRT, and targeted temperature management protocols.
• Prior travel nursing experience.
