Performs a variety ofland surveying tasks under the direction of a Survey Party Chief, or the ChiefSurveyor. ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Thefollowing duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functionsof this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
-Assists Survey Party Chief with the performance of field work, including but not limited to topographic, boundary, and construction staking surveys.
-Receives instructions and general direction from supervisor prior to performing team activities.
-Maintains equipment, supplies, and vehicles on a daily basis.
-Performs various calculations using coordinate geometry, trigonometry, and algebra in order to perform surveying for projects.
-Interprets maps and plats for the location of right of way and easements.
-Keeps accurate notes, records, maps, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
-Performs tasks to maintain the City Vertical and Horizontal Control Systems.
-Performs other duties and assigned.
-May research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
-Operates City Vehicles on public roads and on constructions sites SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES
Thisposition has no supervisory responsibilities. City Competencies
-General knowledge of land surveying principles.
-Knowledge and ability to set up and operate Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, hardware and software. Knowledge of the basics of how GPS works, and the limitations of GPS. (Preferred)
-Knowledge and ability to set up and operate Total Stations. (Preferred)
-Ability to perform data entry and word processing and to operate survey software packages.
-Ability to develop Excel spreadsheets.
-Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and repair.
-Ability to use Auto Cad and/or surveying software. (Preferred) EDUCATIONand EXPERIENCE
Pursuingan undergraduate or graduate degree in Surveying/Geomatics, Civil Engineering,Construction Management, GIS or aclosely-related field. Experience and/or Course Work in Land Surveyingpreferred. LANGUAGESKILLS
Ability to read andinterpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routinereports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively beforegroups of customers or employees of the organization. REASONINGABILITY
Ability to defineproblems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical ordiagram form. CERTIFICATES,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
