Job Description Perform maintenance and repair duties for production plant machinery, building physical structure, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as construction or remodeling duties as assigned. Also perform electrical maintenance and repairs for plant production equipment and commercial building. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follows all company safety rules and policies. Maintains 5S program standards, including organizing, labeling, cleaning, and sustaining workstations, toolboxes, work areas and parts shelving and cabinets. Reads, understands and follows schematics, wire and parts diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications to repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble (Root Cause). Dismantles machines or equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts, replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms. Replaces or repairs machine belts. Performs duties with the aid of hoists, cranes, hand tools, power tools. Holds scaffolding members in place or tightens bolts to erect working platforms around machines. Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings using rags, brushes, grease gun, oil can, and other required tools. Removes dust, dirt, grease and waste material from machines. Paints machines or equipment to prevent corrosion. May install and repair electrical systems and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications using hand tools, power tools and electrical and electronic test equipment. Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement. May diagnose or troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment such as control circuits, motors and lighting fixtures, HVAC systems using testing equipment, and make necessary repairs such as replacing damaged or broken wires and cables. Troubleshoots to component levels. Tests malfunctioning machinery using test equipment and discusses malfunction with other maintenance employees to diagnose malfunction. Replaces faulty electrical components such as wiring, fuses, relays, switches, electric motor bearings, motors, and positions sensing devices. May diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components such as circuit boards, and mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order. May repair electronic equipment such as industrial controls, audio systems, transmitters, and servomechanisms following blueprints and manufacturer’s specifications and using hand tools and test instruments. Converses with machinery/equipment operators to ascertain problems with machinery/equipment before breakdown and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical/electrical problems. Tests faulty machinery/equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic/electrical systems or units to diagnose cause of malfunction. Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects using oscilloscopes, signal generators, ammeters and voltmeters. Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts using hand tools and soldering iron. Aligns, adjusts and calibrates equipment according to specifications. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests. May connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools. May install control and distribution components such as switches, relays and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools. May connect power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope. May bend and cut conduit and wire, and drill holes in walls, floors and ceilings for electrical connections. May connect wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replace switches and fuses and splice wire and insulate wire with friction tape. May bend, cut and thread pipe, cut openings in walls, ceilings and floors for pipes, seal pipe joints with sealing compound. May cut out and join parts for worktables, benches, shelves and other furnishings using power tools and hand tools. May be required to assist with plumbing repair work, building construction/remodeling/repairs, general machinery maintenance or repair duties. May patch or replace plaster or plaster board and paint walls, ceilings, and trim of building. May drill and break up concrete. May mix and pour concrete for foundations. May weld and fabricate a variety of designs, including fixtures, carts, tables, and platforms using MIG, TIG and/or stick methods. Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures. Inspects products and processes while performing job duties to ensure all work done meets or exceeds standards of the company’s quality program. Works cooperatively and congenially with co-workers to achieve cohesive and productive work processes and work environment. May provide ground watch for other maintenance employees using aerial equipment. May be required to assist with spill response clean‑up. May be required to train other maintenance employees. Will be required to participate in the “Authorized Driver” program. May be required to drive company vehicles including cars and pickup trucks. May be subject to random drug testing per the “Authorized Driver” policy. Will be subject to an annual DMV Background Check per the “Authorized Driver” policy. Performs additional tasks as assigned by management or as the situation requires. Qualifications Valid Texas Driver’s License required. 5 years’ experience in general mechanical maintenance of production machinery, including reading blueprints, wire diagrams, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, root cause analysis, and requesting machine parts. Technical degree and/or license relating to electrical, mechanical or HVAC/Refrigeration – minimum one required OR 120 hours of documented electrical training. License number and/or documentation must be provided before hire date. Must be able to meet all minimum training requirements within first 6–12 months of hire date. Obtain and maintain Traulsen/OSHA certifications for powered equipment, including but not limited to forklifts, scissor lifts, aerial booms, stock chasers, and floor scrubbers within first 90 days of hire date. Capable of operating aerial lift equipment. Obtain and maintain Traulsen/OSHA certifications for power equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions regarding procedures required for various machine repair. Ability to read and follow repair or installation instructions. Ability to use a variety of small hand tools, power tools, scissor lifts, and material handling equipment. Possess basic mechanical aptitude and ability. Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers (bi‑lingual English‑Spanish a plus). Ability to read and follow written English instructions and complete PMs and work orders within Maintenance CMMS software. Some ability to write English responses. Ability to understand basic online safety and cyber security courses presented in English and demonstrate understanding through multiple choice exam score. Ability to communicate through email. Physical Demands & Work Environment Attend work regularly and report promptly for duty on scheduled days and times. Manage schedule changes productively. Work temperatures vary with seasonal changes; the environment has noise and limited climate control. Work occasionally outdoors in temperatures ranging from hot to cold and exposed to rain and wind. Sit on a forklift, stand, walk, squat, climb, or crawl for a combined minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day on a concrete surface. Lift and carry components, tools, or other items weighing more than 35 pounds – items over 35 pounds require assistance. Pull and push up to 100 pounds. Work around hazardous chemicals. Carry tools and equipment to and from storage and work areas. Perform combinations of physical movements to reach difficult areas: bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting, rotation motions using head/neck, arms, wrists, waist, knees and arms while performing duties. Handle small hand tools and power tools unilaterally or bilaterally depending on size and shape of object and task. Correct vision required to be aware of surroundings and location of items needed. Correct hearing required to identify conditions in the environment (e.g., forklift horns, fire alarms). Mental alertness needed to identify, avoid, or resolve safety hazards. Ability to work at elevated heights. Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers. Ability to wear designated personal protective equipment: safety glasses, cut‑resistant gloves, hearing protection, harnesses, hard hats, safety shoes. Hours of Work Monday — Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm and overtime when required, including frequent Saturdays with a schedule of 5:00 am to 1:30 pm; possible on‑call requirements.
