ESA II - LPN Emergency Department

The Emergency Services Associate II works under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Services or designee. The Emergency Services Associates cares for patients under direction of RN and medical staff by performing the primary duties according to established standards.

Responsibilities:

• Performs all patient care skills at the level of Paramedic Missouri Licensure or Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Transports patients to rooms as appropriate.
• Assists with patient disrobing, takes vital signs and pulse oximetry, applies cardiac monitors.
• Transports patients and families to other departments and units as designated.
• Collects and transports patient specimens including blood, urine, stool, and sputum samples.
• Performs point of care testing including quality controls and instrument maintenance.
• Performs EKGs and uploads into EMR.
• Performs and/or assists with simple wound care, suturing, epistaxis control, applying casts, and splinting.
• Responsible for basic housekeeping duties such as basic cleaning of rooms between patients. Performs cleaning/maintenance of patient equipment (dynamap blood pressure cuffs).
• Restocks supplies, SPD equipment, linens, oxygen tanks in the Emergency Department.
• Performs clerical duties as needed.
• Administers medications and monitors patients responses to medications including intravenous fluids and medications.
• Collaborates effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing. - Required
• Accredited Paramedic Training Program - Required

Work Experience:

• 1 Year - Emergency Services experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 Days
• LPNIV - Lpn Iv Cert - State of Missouri or Kansas depending upon designated work location - Required Upon Hire Or
• Paramedic License - State of Missouri - Required Upon Hire

Travel Requirements:

• Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required
