Construction Superintendent

Job Title: Superintendent Location: Bowling Green, KY Department: Field Reports To: Director of Construction Exempt Status: Non-Exempt General Purpose: This position is responsible for overseeing a construction project from start to finish ranging in revenue from $500,000-$40,000,000. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supervising and coordinating subcontractors and daily project scope Responsible for on the job training, overseeing and supervision of employees, to include but not limited to encouraging, motivating, and leading by example, displaying effective verbal communication, technical writing, etc. Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations Preparing and implementing requirements and scheduling to meet all inspection and permit specifications Managing project cost and schedule, including but not limited to: Assisting and preparing cost and schedule analysis. Responsible for considering, evaluating and compiling job change orders and the impact to cost, schedule, and scope of work Responsible for researching and compiling request for information of design, schedule, cost, material inquiries, unforeseen conditions, purchasing and providing analysis for materials needed, etc. Determination of manpower requirements on a daily basis for Wehr employees including schedule and hours worked Reviewing, enforcing, and ensuring all parties abide by contract documents Analyzing and documenting daily progress and communicating pertinent information to owners/clients Leads weekly progress meetings with all parties on-site to discuss quality control, safety, work coordination, schedule, concerns, etc. Attends and presents information in OAC meetings (OAC=Owner/Architect/Contractor) Managing on the job performance of Wehr employees, including performance reviews, merit-based compensation recommendations, disciplinary action, including hiring recommendations and ability to remove from jobsite for policy violations, termination and lay-off authority of temporary employees Determining/Establishing means and methods of the day to day constructability on each project Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has supervisory responsibilities ranging from 10-20 employees at any given time. In total, there subordinate supervisors ranging from 30-150 depending on the size and type of project. Education and/or Experience: This position requires a Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills: This position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: This position requires the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: This position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. It sometimes requires standing and rarely requires the use of hands to finger, handle, feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling. This position requires a moderate amount of lifting up to 10 pounds and sometimes requires the lifting up to 50 pounds. Close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception are all important components of this job. The ability to adjust focus with eyes is also important. Receiving and checking deliveries Basic reading of prints Job site conditions and safety (requires awareness and vision from all depths and angles) Determining finish colors Quality Control Work Environment: This position rarely requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. It sometimes requires being exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. The work environment in terms of how much noise is typical can range from moderate (example: business office with computers and printers) to very loud (example: jack hammer work).
