Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: 1+ years of surgical tech experience License: BLS (American Heart Association) Certifications: IDPH Fingerprinting Must-Have: Independently scrubs basic surgical procedures. Demonstrates ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed. Applied basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care. Applies basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers for optimal surgical patient care. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork. Applies principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures. Description: The Surgical Technician functions as an integral part of the perioperative team. They assist under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in delivering safe and effective care to patients during the intraoperative period. They apply the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to maintain a sterile environment. They demonstrate competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and appropriate knowledge base. They provide age-specific care to patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. They assist in the organization and coordination of supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department. They maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and themselves. They adhere to safety and legal requirements established at the hospital and unit level. They charge for equipment and supplies. They participate in room turnover and setup. They maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair per policy. They effectively perform sterilization, disinfection, and document loads per policy.
