Location Description
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. With its friendly atmosphere, safe environment, and progressive spirit, Lenox is a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family.
Responsibilities
SUMMARY :
The purpose of the driver is to meet the transportation needs of the company.
This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value and to ensure that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform driving assignments as directed by dispatch on time with no cargo loss or damage.
Ensure compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations relating to the operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
Comply with hours-of-service regulations.
Perform proper pre-trip, on-the-road trip, and post-trip inspections as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and complete company vehicle inspection report forms, ensuring vehicle and trailer is in safe operating condition.
Ensure proper loading, securing and weight distribution of said cargo before and during trip. Protect cargo against shifting, damage and /or theft and secure trailer doors.
Communicate all variances to scheduled pickup and delivery appointments promptly so the company can notify the customer and take corrective action as needed.
Sign and complete all paperwork accurately including electronic logs, trip reports, and bills of lading, etc. and submit promptly.
Must be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times and contact the immediate supervisor to handle any conflicts that do occur.
Expected to adhere to safe work practices becoming of a VPP Star worksite.
Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate health and safety in all jobs and tasks.
Adhere to quality work practices, follow all GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
One year verifiable over-the-road driving experience in a commercial motor vehicle and/or yard switching experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
- CDL Class A Driver's license
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Specific skills and abilities required that are not included in other sections:
Valid CDL (Class A) license with tanker endorsement.
Be familiar with all state and federal regulations pertaining to the operations of a commercial vehicle.
1 plus years of tractor-trailer and/or yard switching experience.
Knowledge of operating a refrigerated reefer unit.
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to crank landing gear/dolly legs up or down.
Ability to interact with customers/people in a professional manner.
NOTE: Must successfully pass the 90-day probationary period.
