Sterile Processing Technician

Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates, and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled. Cleans soiled instruments and equipment utilizing the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). Inspects and tests instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning. Utilizes testing tools to ensure that proper sterilization occurs. Strives for zero defects. Ensures proper processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies by prioritizing the workload to correspond with medical/surgical floor needs. Accurately differentiates between instruments and their specialties. Monitors performance of equipment and completes repair requisitions as necessary. Answers and interprets requests and issues according to departmental standards. Demonstrates proficiency in assembling complex trays such as implant trays. Ensures customer area requests are handled in an efficient, timely, and professional manner. Maintains low error rates and high productivity rates. Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigations where appropriate. Completes all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements on a timely basis. Performs other duties as assigned.
