Health Policy Analyst

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is seeking an accomplished individual to support the firm’s government relations (GR) team as an International Policy Fellow . The role is an integral part of our Government Relations Practice and critical to the success of our work on behalf of clients. In this role, you would be working under a team of accomplished and respected public policy professionals, including former Members of Congress, cabinet secretaries, and senior executive agency officials. We are seeking an individual who has some experience in at least one of the following policy areas: foreign policy, immigration, trade and/or national security. International Policy Fellow responsibilities include, but are not limited to; liaising with firm Policy Analysts, Policy Advisors and Policy Directors on a daily basis; adapting quickly to changing work requirements; providing support to firm policy staff on a variety of internationally oriented projects; and conducting research and drafting reports for distribution to clients, upon approval. Successful candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a flexible work schedule to accommodate client demands, deep background knowledge of relevant international issues, a high standard of personal accountability and attention to detail, strong research skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, candidates should have solid political awareness, leadership experience, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative manner. The candidate for this position may also be asked to take responsibility for other duties that fall outside of the essential job functions. In addition to the job functions listed below, the firm will support the Fellow in their professional and academic goals and match them with relevant projects to the extent practicable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare weekly reports tracking relevant think tank and media coverage of the client, and provide analysis of trends in coverage over time Attend meetings with clients and related parties to take notes, and send to firm staff for distribution Coordinate activities and priorities with senior staff members on a regular basis Track U.S. foreign policy developments relevant to the client Attend Congressional hearings and think tank events on behalf of the firm, taking notes and sending to firm staff for distribution Use open-source research tools to answer information requests from firm leadership in a timely manner Coordinate with and designate responsibility to firm Interns as appropriate Required and Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree, preferably in international affairs/relations 2+ years of work experience Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills Experience leading teams and managing projects Experience working in Congress, the Executive Branch, political campaigns, advocacy and lobbying, and/or policy research and analysis Strong computer and research skills Ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities Ability to engage clients and government officials in a mature, professional manner 1+ year of Hill or agency experience or relevant private sector experience preferred Compensation The position is full time, hourly at $30 an hour, fully in-office and will be a 6-month duration with an option to stay an additional 3 months.
