Preventative Maintenance Technician

Our client is seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled Preventative Maintenance Technician to perform scheduled preventative maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment. The Preventative Maintenance Technician will conduct inspections, routine servicing, and equipment checks to identify potential issues before they become major repairs.


This position plays an important role in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and ready for use while helping reduce downtime and extend the life of the fleet. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with mechanical equipment.


Key Responsibilities


Preventative Maintenance

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines, PM schedules, and established checklists.
• Complete routine services such as fluid checks, lubrication, filter changes, adjustments, and safety inspections.
• Inspect equipment for worn, damaged, or unsafe components.
• Identify potential repair needs and document findings accurately.
• Ensure all preventative maintenance work meets company and manufacturer standards.

Equipment Inspection & Documentation

• Accurately document completed PM services, inspections, and equipment conditions.
• Record recommended repairs and communicate findings to the Service Manager.
• Immediately report safety concerns and urgent repair needs.
• Verify equipment identification numbers and hour meter readings.
• Complete work orders accurately and on time.

Rental & Customer Equipment Support

• Perform preventative maintenance on rental fleet equipment.
• Coordinate PM activities with the Rental Manager.
• Help ensure rental equipment remains current on required maintenance and is ready for service.
• Perform PM work on customer-owned equipment in the shop or field.
• Assist with preparing equipment for rental, delivery, or return to service.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Inspect equipment to help ensure it meets applicable safety requirements.
• Immediately report unsafe equipment or working conditions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow OSHA requirements and manufacturer safety guidelines.

Parts & Inventory

• Identify parts and supplies needed for preventative maintenance and minor corrections.
• Communicate parts requirements accurately to the Parts Department.
• Assist with tracking commonly used PM parts and supplies.
• Properly handle and account for parts, materials, and used components.

Qualifications

• Previous mechanical, maintenance, forklift, or material handling equipment experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and preventative maintenance practices.
• Ability to inspect equipment and identify potential mechanical or safety issues.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
• Ability to follow maintenance schedules, checklists, and manufacturer specifications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling tools and equipment.
