Instructional and Technology Specialist (Part-Time)(Tahoe-Truckee) SIERRA JOINT COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT • Truckee, California Under general supervision of the assigned manager, provides technical and instructional support for the Tahoe Truckee Campus; sets up and maintains instructional computer lab equipment, facilities, and materials; installs, configures, troubleshoots, and services computer workstations used by District staff or students; coordinates tutoring services; proctors exams and quizzes; and provides library support services, as needed. Part‑time hours: 5:00 pm–10:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. Representative Duties Participates in network and computer support operations for the campus in accordance with District Information Technology Services (ITS) guidelines and policies. Provides technical support for campus computers, including phone connections, workstation installation and configuration, server connectivity, user profile setup, printer and peripheral configuration, student account setup, performance monitoring, diagnosis and repair of equipment, coordination of workstation and lab relocations, and audio‑visual equipment maintenance. Ensures continuous operation and security of equipment and software; implements backup strategies, performs recovery operations, responds to emergencies, maintains documentation of system activity, user problems, and asset recycling, and manages inventory of hardware, software, and peripherals. Delivers initial technical assistance, training, and support to faculty, staff, students, and lab users; coordinates updates with faculty, reports problems, collaborates with ITS for hardware and software needs, maintains databases, arranges repairs, prepares instructions, assists with Macintosh operations, and serves as liaison to external vendors. Provides instructional and technical support in online teaching environments, including group and individual training, LMS support, classroom demonstration updates, graphic and video library development, and page maintenance. Acts as primary contact for Assistive Technology staff, addressing assistive technology issues and training students. Facilitates daily library operations, providing technical assistance for library equipment and computers and maintaining research resources. Operates the tutoring and testing center, handling student identification, test administration, accommodations, environment management, policy enforcement, feedback, dishonesty reporting, proctoring coordination, data collection, and procedure development. Provides administrative support, responds to inquiries, coordinates facility usage, prepares reports and correspondence, maintains records, manages equipment warranties, licenses, and software information, and assists with website maintenance. Participates in budget preparation, recommends equipment, obtains vendor quotes, requests purchase orders, inventories supplies, discusses new products, maintains expenditure records, advocates campus needs, develops equipment lists, and supplies input for annual budget development. Provides onboarding support, training, guidance, supervision assistance, and directs activities of students or temporary employees, including tutor recruitment and scheduling. Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position. Qualifications Knowledge of: Computer and network installation and maintenance principles, protocols, applications, equipment, and tools, including server and network operations, audio‑visual and multimedia systems, and Macintosh operating systems. Test proctoring principles and procedures. Basic tutorial and instructional techniques. Learning styles, disabilities, and challenges. Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to student support and exam proctoring, such as FERPA and the ADA. Basic inventory, bookkeeping, and purchasing processes and procedures. English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Ability to: Perform technical and operational duties, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, test proctoring, and library tutoring support. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment, machines, and software. Provide system and user support, analyze problems, and recommend solutions. Proctor and administer tests and exams per instructor guidelines. Enforce testing center policies, maintaining a secure environment. Adapt to new technologies and learn new equipment. Interpret technical manuals. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines. Perform basic record‑keeping functions. Utilize office procedures and technology, including LMS and network management software. Maintain confidentiality of information. Follow written and oral directions. Communicate clearly, orally and in writing. Provide onboarding support, training, guidance, and supervision of students or temporary employees. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Work independently and collaboratively. Apply District policies and procedures. Education and Experience Guidelines Two years of college with major coursework in business administration, computer science, or related field. Two years of increasingly responsible experience in instructional support or similar technology‑focused roles. Physical Demands and Working Environment Primarily indoor work in educational centers, classrooms, or laboratories. Functions require standing or sitting for prolonged periods, occasional walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light to moderate weight; and operating office equipment with repetitive hand movement.
