The Nursing Assistant duties are of a technical nature requiring specialized training and skill. The training and skill of the Nursing Assistant is commensurate with their advancement through an accredited school of nursing. The Nursing Assistant is registered in an accredited school of nursing. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and ICARE values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures./ph3Other Information/h3pRequired Job Qualifications:/pulliCurrent enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate or Masters entry level school of nursing with passing grades in all courses upon hire and on an annual basis or awaiting eligibility (within 3 months of graduation)./liliCompleted a fundamental nursing course to include basic nursing skills, such as vital signs and ADLs./liliHigh school diploma or equivalent./liliSuccessful completion of the institutional screening examination./liliAbility to solve simple problems./liliExcellent communication and customer service skills./li/ulh3Physical Demands/h3ulliThe ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift./liliLifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs./liliWork conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents./li/ulh3Responsibilities/h3pAssists the RN in the delivery of patient care/pulliReports to charge Registered Nurse to designate for assignment of duties./liliMaintains a safe patient environment./liliSets priority of duties based on needs of patient and unit, under the direction of the Registered Nurse./liliUnder the direction of the Registered Nurse, participates in the implementation of individualized plans of care./liliAssists patients in activities of daily living./liliAccurately obtains patient data and documents all care in the appropriate patient care record./liliPerforms routine procedures, treatments and specimen collections./liliDemonstrates aseptic technique, when necessary./liliAssists Registered Nurse or physician with advanced procedures./liliAssists the nurse in the management of uncomplicated tubes and drains./liliPerforms specific patient care procedures such as blood glucose testing, specimen collection, etc./liliDemonstrates knowledge of age specific variables and growth and development./liliPromptly reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate Registered Nurse./li/ulpTransports Patients And (other) Items As Needed/pulliAssists with admission, discharge, and transport of patients./liliTransports laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required./liliObtains blood products, supplies and equipment as necessary./li/ulpCompetently Utilizes Technology/pulliDemonstrates proficiency in the use of the telephone and patient call system(s)./liliDemonstrates proficiency in the use of EPIC./liliDemonstrates proficiency in the use of selected unit specific monitors, pumps, and other equipment./li/ulpMaintains A Safe, Orderly, Well-Equipped Environment/pulliKeeps patient rooms safe, orderly, and according to unit routine./liliIndependently orders, organizes, and restocks according to unit specifications./liliReplenishes patient room supplies./liliMaintains emergency supplies./li/ulpDemonstrates A Professional Work Style In Interactions With Internal And External Customers/pulliCommunicates all pertinent information to the appropriate team member throughout the shift and to the oncoming shift./liliNegotiates break time and communicates departure and return time per unit protocol./liliDemonstrates initiative and self-direction in work habits./li/ulpRush is an equal opportunity employer.
