Health Science Specialist

Overview This position is organizationally located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - South Texas veteran Health Care System (San Antonio) Medical Research Service. The South Texas Veterans Health Care System program supports significant activities in all VA research programs - including those servicing clinical - biological/basic - health systems and rehabilitation research. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: You must possess a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field - health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of a Health Science Specialist (Copies of transcripts are required at the time of application). Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS - 11) in the Federal Service that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Health Science Specialist. Qualifying specialized experience includes but is not limited to: managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Research & Development Committee processes - including receipt - review - and referral of research applications - and coordination with investigators to resolve study protocol issues; developing and implementing policies - procedures - and reporting mechanisms in alignment with local and national guidelines; maintaining project tracking databases - preparing compliance reports - and independently monitoring program content.
