CLASS TITLE: Exceptional Child Education Consultant This position is for the 2026/2027 school year. BASIC FUNCTION: Coordinate and assist in the implementation of the Hardin County Board Policies and Procedures as they relate to special education. Provide technical assistance and professional development training in the implementation of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Special Education Consultant, 202 days.
Early Childhood Special Education Consultant, 220 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
- Ensure compliance in accordance with IDEA and Kentucky State Regulations in regards to the education of students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with district administrators and supervisors in monitoring the total special education program, curriculum, procedures and individual student needs and achievement and recommend changes as needed.
- Support and communicate the district-wide philosophy of least restrictive environment for serving special needs students to school administration, staff, parents, and community members.
- Provide training in due process procedures, special education records management software, data collection, effective programming for students with disabilities for teachers and administrators, and other identified areas of growth.
- Assist teachers in development of monitoring procedures and other data collection methods.
- Assist staff with interventions and strategies in behavior management & instructional practices/strategies (i.e., classroom management programs, individual behavior management programs, de-escalation strategies, etc.)
- Assist school and district personnel in obtaining previous school and due process records of students who have transferred into Hardin County from other school districts.
- Review educational programs for students with disabilities and ensure services are provided in accordance with the IEP.
- Provide school-wide consultation as needed to facilitate staff's ability to implement procedures and to meet particular needs of identified students.
- Collaborate with building principals and other district personnel in the improvement of individual staff competencies.
- Chair and facilitate IEP and special education meetings for students as needed.
- Select and administer age appropriate assessment methods and materials in order to determine the needs of the student.
- Participate in eligibility committee meetings and contribute to the development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as needed.
- Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.
- Participate in scheduled district support team meetings.
- Seek and use opportunities for professional development.
- Adhere to professional code of ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Master's Degree or Completed Fifth-Year Program
- Valid State Teacher Certificate In The Subject Area
- 3 Year Teaching Experience
