Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will assist with all aspects of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate tennis program competing in the Pacific West Conference (PacWest), including practice planning, student-athlete development, match preparation, recruiting, video analysis, academic support, team travel, compliance responsibilities, camps, and administrative operations. The Assistant Coach supports the mission and values of Cal State LA Athletics and promotes student-athlete success, equity, inclusion, and sportsmanship. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of NCAA Rules – This position requires a strong working knowledge and understanding of NCAA, PacWest, and university rules and regulations regarding compliance issues. Ability to instruct and develop student-athletes in a competitive collegiate tennis environment, including singles and doubles competition. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with video analysis software, scouting preparation, match analysis, and tennis operations. Commitment to student-athlete academic success, equity, inclusion, well-being, and personal development. Major Job Duties (Essential Functions): Assist with planning and conducting team practices, individual skill instruction, match preparation, scouting, and lineup development for singles and doubles competition. Provide instruction and mentorship to student-athletes to support athletic performance, leadership, teamwork, and personal development. Assist the Head Coach with recruiting efforts, video analysis, travel coordination, camps, program logistics, and daily operations. Support the academic success, retention, and overall well-being of student-athletes. Promote positive engagement with the university and community through outreach initiatives and representation of the Women’s Tennis program. Maintain compliance with NCAA, PacWest, and university policies and procedures. Assist with team travel and transportation responsibilities in accordance with university policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated coaching experience in athletics, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field. Demonstrated successful coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate, high school, or club level. Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills are essential. Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, as well as knowledge of and commitment to NCAA, PacWest, and university rules and regulations. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet university driver authorization requirements throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications: Prior collegiate tennis playing or coaching experience; familiarity with NCAA recruiting practices and collegiate tennis recruiting platforms such as ITA and/or UTR; strong communication and organizational skills; experience with video analysis and statistical software; and the ability to assist with camps, community outreach, and student-athlete development initiatives. Position requires evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight travel for recruiting and competition. Duties may include demonstrating tennis techniques and drills, transporting equipment, and working in office, outdoor court, and travel environments. Initial Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the faculty lecturer: Academic Year-month Classification is available based on the following ranges: (per salary schedule 7/1/2024) Full-time equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677. Anticipated salary is commensurate within education and experience.
