Responsibilities

Summary:

The Physical Therapist plans, organizes and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team. Provides evidence-based, patient-centered services designed to improve mobility, reduce pain, prevent or limit disability, and support safe participation in daily activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Physical Therapist evaluates patient upon initial encounter to assess impairment and current condition to estimate rehabilitation potential. Performs ongoing reassessments and updates the plan of care based on measurable findings and the patient's response to treatment.
• Plans physical therapy treatment program for each patient, based on the assessment, including training in functional mobility, use of assistive devices, therapeutic exercise, balance and coordination retraining, massage, heat, and cryotherapy.
• The Physical Therapist applies diagnostic and progressive muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
• Directs and aids patients in therapeutic regimen. Monitors tolerance, vital signs, pain, and other relevant clinical indicators, modifying or stopping treatment when clinically indicated.
• The Physical Therapist conducts and participates in training medical and nursing personnel in physical therapy techniques and objectives.
• Evaluates, records, and reports patient progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team. Communicates effectively with the physician, other members of the rehabilitation team, and others as indicated regarding the treatment plan and the patient's response. Coordinates transitions of care, discharge recommendations, equipment needs, and referrals within the scope of practice.
• Counsels' patient according to degree of disability or impairment. Provides education on the plan of care, housing unit exercise or self-management strategies, safe use of equipment, fall prevention, and relevant precautions; uses teach-back or another appropriate method to confirm understanding.
• Completes all required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner.
• Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings. Participates in continuing education program to ensure appropriate units are attained for maintenance of State license.
• Uses and maintains therapy equipment safely; reports damaged or unsafe equipment and environmental hazards promptly.
• Follows infection prevention, standard precautions, patient identification, emergency response, incident reporting, and workplace safety requirements.
• Practices within the authorized scope of licensure and seek consultation or escalates concerns when patient needs exceed that scope.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and requested

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy preferred.
• Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program is required.
• Current unrestricted state licensure as a Physical Therapist is required.
• Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body substance precautions and body mechanics to protect self, patients, and personnel working with therapists.
• The incumbent must abide by the ethical guidelines as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association.
• Basic Life Support certification from an organization accepted by the employer, if required for the assigned setting.
• Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, manage priorities, and use electronic health records and other job-related technology.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries, exercise sound clinical judgment, and provide respectful care to individuals with diverse clinical, cultural, language, and functional needs.

Pay USD $30.00/Hr. to USD $30.00/Hr.
