Registered Nurse II – Evening Shift (260003PZ) The Department of Mental Health at the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse to provide nursing care to resilient patients navigating their journey toward recovery in a 60‑bed inpatient psychiatric facility. Essential duties include preparing, administering, and documenting patient medications and treatment; functioning as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team; assuming responsibility for nursing care on the inpatient unit; maintaining patient and nursing records; and following all standards, policies, and practices for nursing and facility operations. Duties and Responsibilities Transcribe all physicians’ orders and administer medications and treatments to help in the rehabilitation of the patients. Complete admission assessment and initial nursing care plan based on health and safety issues by the end of the shift. Provide primary nursing care to an assigned group of patients utilizing the nursing process and following current standards of care. Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, acting as a resource person regarding patients’ health issues. Manage and supervise the nursing staff in the absence of a registered nurse of a higher grade. Meet patient nursing care needs as charge nurse or primary nurse by communicating key patient information to appropriate nursing staff to ensure integration, coordination, and continuity of patient care. Participate in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients to facilitate a smooth transition. Act as a leader or co‑leader of patient treatment groups. Oversee and instruct paraprofessional staff in the care giving of their assigned patients. Investigate patient and employee incidents, completing written reports. Participate in staff development, infection control, quality improvement, pharmacy, lab, dietary, safety, risk management, restraint review, orientation and other committees. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age‑related spiritual and cultural needs of clients served. Act as a role model to other staff, participate in ongoing supervision, attend conferences, mandatory trainings and other education requirements. Participate in MHIS training and perform MHIS functions as required. Participate in performance improvement teams assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications One-year full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience as an RN in a recognized hospital, general and/or psychiatric setting. Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registry in Nursing. Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing. Knowledge of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as the mentally, physically, and/or emotionally handicapped. Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods and techniques. Awareness of the principles of physiological, psychological and emotional growth and development. Knowledge of the types and characteristics of drugs used in diagnosing, treating and controlling physical, mental and/or emotional disorders. Knowledge of interviewing techniques. Familiarity with problem‑solving techniques. Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing agency operations and assigned unit activities. Ability to explain the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing agency operations and assigned unit activities. Preferred Qualifications Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress and in stressful settings. Bilingual or multilingual fluency given the population served. Schedule and Shift Full‑time, second shift, evening: 2:45 p.m. – 11:15 p.m. Days off are Tuesday and Saturday (week 1) and Sunday and Wednesday (week 2). Employees will be required to perform mandatory overtime. Benefits & Requirements Salary is $86,385.78 – $144,149.72 yearly.
