Assistant Sales Manager

Total Compensation: [pay range] Location: Northfield, NJ — serving South Jersey Workplace Setting: Onsite and in the field

Position Summary

The Assistant Sales Manager helps run our sales team and carries responsibility for whether it hits its number. You will coach reps in the field, sit in on appointments, review pipeline with the Sales Manager, and step in when a deal or a rep needs attention.

This is a developing leader's seat. You are still close enough to the work to run an appointment yourself when one needs saving, and far enough above it to be judged on what the team produces rather than what you personally close. If you have been a strong closer and you want to find out whether you can make other people strong closers, this is where you find out.

We sell roofing, siding, windows and doors to homeowners who are often making the largest repair decision they will make in a decade. The work is consultative and the standard is honesty. We do not want pressure closers and we do not keep them.

Success Looks Like

• The sales team hits its number without the Sales Manager having to carry it personally

• Newer reps get better month over month because you are in the field with them, not reviewing them from a desk

• Homeowners who meet our reps describe the experience as straight and professional, and our review average shows it

Objectives

• Ride along on appointments with reps you are developing

• Conduct a documented one-on-one with each assigned rep weekly

• Review the sales pipeline with the Sales Manager on a set weekly cadence and come with the numbers already pulled

• Hold and improve team close rate over the year.

• Run appointments personally when coverage requires it, without letting your coaching cadence slip

• Keep CRM records current and accurate for your team — no stale opportunities, no missing next actions

• Escalate pricing and contract exceptions rather than deciding them alone

Competencies

• Coaches rather than takes over — can watch a rep handle something imperfectly and correct it afterward

• Closes residential exterior work consultatively, without pressure tactics

• Reads a pipeline and knows which deals are real

• Holds a rep accountable and keeps the relationship intact

• Communicates clearly with homeowners, crews and the office — and tells the office early when something is off

• Comfortable in a CRM daily and honest in what gets entered

Education and Experience

• 2+ years of in-home or outside sales experience, required — residential exteriors strongly preferred

• Experience training, coaching or leading other salespeople preferred

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, required

• Comfortable on a ladder and willing to get on a roof when an inspection calls for it

• Demonstrated high performance in some arena — a sales floor, the military, athletics, anywhere you had to be good at something and were

Physical Requirements

• Driving between appointments across South Jersey throughout the day

• Climbing ladders and walking roofs during inspections, at height

• Working outdoors in heat, cold and wind

• Extended periods at a desk and on a computer for pipeline and reporting work

• Evening appointments as homeowner schedules require
