Clinical Lab Scientist

A Brief Overview The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests used to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. Using technical knowledge and a theoretical understanding of the basis of the tests, records and validates the accuracy and quality of results to ensure conformity to specifications. Understands and applies the correct control measures and protocols in cases of abnormal results, escalating discrepancies as appropriate. Communicates with clinical staff and medical staff when results are critical or require urgent attention. Guides, trains and may provide mentoring to students and/or technical staff as appropriate. Location Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Shift Evening — 08 Hour (United States of America) Responsibilities Perform clinical laboratory tests of varying complexity using standard procedures examining specimens for the purpose of providing information for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. Determine suitability of specimen for analysis, following established procedures and policies. Accurately perform and complete laboratory analysis on body fluids in accordance with laboratory protocols and policies. Proficiency in laboratory tests for specialty assigned which may include chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology. Adhere to all safety/health and state/federal regulatory requirements. Record and report test results. Review results for accuracy and precision and maintain testing turn‑around‑time standards for all categories of testing. When testing is delayed, communicate approximate turn‑around‑time to appropriate personnel. Assure accurate results by performing confirmatory tests as appropriate and correlating laboratory and patient data to verify results. Interpret laboratory results considering controls and published standards. Communicate with physician, nursing staff and clients and clearly respond to inquiries and document interactions including specimen and test requirements and outcome of results. Communicate critical results to the person responsive for the care of the patient, escalating issues as appropriate. Perform maintenance and function checks on analytical equipment and perform operational checks necessary for proper test performance to assure accurate and reliable test results and reporting. Perform calibration as needed, run quality control samples as scheduled and evaluate results. Using technical knowledge and theoretical understanding of the basis of tests, record and analyze test results to validate accuracy, quality and conformity to specifications. Strive to resolve problems related to clinical issues, equipment or testing by initiating research utilizing available reference material. Report and/or elevate problems to management as appropriate. Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C‑I‑CARE Standards of the Hospital. Education Bachelor's Degree in a work‑related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Experience 6 months to 1 year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to technological changes in the laboratory. Ability to organize, prioritize, multi‑task, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to solve problems and identify solutions. Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Knowledge and technical proficiency in specialty areas assigned within the laboratory. Knowledge of infection prevention policies and procedures. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility. Compensation Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $58.72 - $79.33 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
