RESEARCH SCIENTIST MANAGER

Job Title Data Systems & Program Alignment Manager – Research Scientist Manager Job Overview This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing data business processes for the collection, management, application, and analysis of data for the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB). Responsibilities Serve as primary advisor on implementation of CLPPB’s program related to case management, environmental investigation, research, and surveillance. Develop and coordinate program informatics and lead collaborative engagements with other CDPH programs and local government lead programs. Supervise section managers in Case Management, Performance Evaluation, Research and Surveillance, and Lead Hazard Reduction. Act as the liaison with ITSD for CLPPB and with Center staff as needed. Provide technical leadership, act as informatics subject‑matter expert, and advise leadership on data workflows, validation, dashboards, and interactive maps. Collaborate with end users, developers, and system administrators to modernize data systems and ensure interoperability with departmental resources. Maintain data security and confidentiality processes and support administrative functions for informatics projects. Supervise multidisciplinary staff and oversee project and program management activities. Minimum Requirements Minimum requirements for this position are detailed in the Classification Specification. Strong organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail. Experience in local government and strategic planning. Critical thinking with logical and creative reasoning. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, and remote collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and SharePoint. Highly developed project management skills and ability to advise and influence all levels of management. Diplomacy skills and ability to build relationships with external agencies, partners, and institutions. Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and provide guidance on complex issues. Resilience and adaptability in the face of change. Knowledge of cloud‑based data management and complex system architecture.
