Director of Investment Accounting

We are seeking a Director of Insurance Investment Accounting for a fast-growing insurance company in Durham, NC. This is a hybrid, hands-on leadership role overseeing the accounting and reporting of a complex investment portfolio and managing a team of 7 investment accounting professionals. Responsibilities: Own/oversees the monthly and quarterly investment accounting close. Reviews U.S. GAAP and statutory/NAIC reporting. Oversees investment footnotes, schedules, and regulatory reporting. Ensures accurate investment accounting and GL reconciliation. Partners with Investments, Treasury, Financial Reporting, and external service providers. Supports accounting treatment of new investment transactions. Leads process improvement, automation, and finance transformation. Coaches, develops, and manages the investment accounting team. NOTE: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (Green Card holders) to be considered for this position. Job Type: Full-time permanent Benefits include: Medical, dental, vision. Work Setup/Schedule: Hybrid — 3 days onsite in Durham, NC 27713 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one additional day of your choice) and 2 days remote. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. 10+ years of accounting/reporting experience within insurance or a top-tier audit firm. Insurance statutory reporting and/or investment reporting experience preferred. Strong knowledge of investment accounting, including fixed income, derivatives, alternatives, investment footnotes, and Yellow/Blue Books. Manager-level experience with direct reports; experience leading teams of 7+ preferred. Strong Excel and technology skills. Experience with general ledger, reporting schedules, and financial close processes.
