Milieu Counselor

Role Overview The Milieu Counselor is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, providing safe, structured care to patients in crisis within an inpatient psychiatric setting. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, they perform nursing tasks, monitor patient vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, and maintain the therapeutic milieu to promote recovery. Key Responsibilities Deliver nursing care, including vital sign measurement, documentation, and patient observation. Assist patients with nutritional, hydration, elimination, and personal care needs. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contribute observations, and implement care plans. Maintain safety through unit checks, emergency procedures, and adherence to safety protocols. Lead and co-lead therapeutic groups, organize activities, and support patient engagement. Ensure compliance with policies, including confidentiality, restraint procedures, and trauma-informed care principles. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and maintain a safe, clean environment. Qualifications & Skills High school diploma required; higher education preferred. Current BLS certification; training in physical restraint and trauma-informed care. Experience in human services or healthcare is preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, observation, and documentation skills. Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and maintain safety standards.
